When it comes to choosing a medium feeder rod, there are a few things to consider. Fish won't usually hook themselves with a traditional feeder set-up, so you'll need to watch the tip to spot and hit bites. A 1oz rated tip is great for calm conditions, while 2oz-3oz might be used in wind, tow, or on a river. The more tips the rod comes with, the more versatile it'll be. The taper of the tips is important too. Soft tips which bend right through offer little resistance to shy-biting fish, but faster taper tips show up tiny tentative bites better and allow you to cast harder and further. Overall though, each version of the rod is very solid and you should have no problem casting with any of them in commercial fisheries and small lakes, etc. Quality Fishing for F1s could almost be a branch of the sport all on its own, thanks to the unique skills required to catch them. On that day I chose to use the two-piece 9ft model, one of a series of six that also includes the 12ft two-piece Method Feeder rod that’s on live test duty this time around.

A soft, seamless through action prevents hook pulls that can lose you a match, yet the rods double up as the perfect winter commercial fishery tools for F1s and carp on maggot feeder and straight lead tactics. Unlike a short feeder rod, it's generally anything from 10ft-12ft long and for casting around 30-50m. This type of rod really excels for casting up to islands that are a bit further away than usual or fishing on big, commercial or natural venues. They will help improve accuracy, fish hook to land ratio and your efficiency on the bank. Both the 10ft and 11ft versions deliver those shorter casts when bream, roach and skimmers are the target. The PrestonIgnition Carp Feeder Fishing Rod is an affordable and high-quality rod that comes from a comprehensive range of fishing rods perfect for any commercial fishing or natural waters. With seamless actions, these are an unbeatable value! The Preston Ignition Carp Feeder Fishing Rods are perfect for underarms a method feeder in the margin. Each rod is supplied with two carbon tips, 1oz- 2 oz! A comprehensive range of rods that are perfect for any commercial fishing as well as natural waters. Seamless actions and high-quality components make them unbeatable value for money. There is a rod in the range for any situation whether its underarming a method feeder in the margin or long-range casting on a big reservoir. For budget rods they really are the business. They feel light to hold (to me anyway) have a good action and will bend all the way through when it comes to it (which you can see from the Preston adverts for them) and really power up when the bigger boys try to charge off. Now, there’s no denying that graphite-built rods (basically a mixture of carbon and glass fibre) have superbly cushioned fish-playing characteristics, especially in the shorter 9ft, 10ft and 11ft lengths. NOT so long ago – only last November, in fact – I ran the rule over one of Preston Innovations’ affordable new Ignition Feeder rods.

Reel Seat: The part of the handle that your reel attaches to. Almost all UK coarse rods have screw-down reel seats, where the fore-grip on the handle rotates and closes the seat to hold the reel in place. Most commercial fishery feeder rods are designed with a progressive fish playing that bends at the tip and 'powers up' along the blank as more pressure is exerted, and ideal for carp. All-round feeder rods tend to have softer 'through' or 'cushioned parabolic' fish playing actions ideal for all species of silver fish. Fish playing action: A way of describing how good a rod performs when reeling in a fish. A rod with a good fish-playing action will provide plenty of cushion to a thrashing fish, preventing hook pulls (lost fish) and line breakages. The casting range on the ignition really depends on the model you choose to buy, they come in 9 to 12 feet, with the 9-foot rods being good at short-range work in tight swims and margins while the 12-foot rods are much better suited to distance casting.

There’s no doubt that this rod is an excellent feeder but it wouldn’t be our first recommendation to new anglers. Its a bit more pricey than some of the other rods and although it compensates through its incredible technology and features, its something that we feel a lot of anglers may not use. We’re not going to bore you but rambling on about how good the finish on the rod is, Drennan is infamous for its feeder rods and builds quality and the red range rods certainly live up to that expectation. The rod feels great, it performs great, it’s built very solidly and apart from that, there isn’t much else to say. Fighting/General usage Aesthetically pleasing, bags of performance mixed with a progressive action means these are equally comfortable fished on natural waters too! Well, what can I say? The Ignition rod fired up faster than a Merlin engine and hurled the bomb straight on to the mark, which impressed me greatly!Like all of Daiwa’s rods, the tournament SLR is well-built. The real discretion between the SLR and a cheaper alternative is the materials used. The rod is made completely from industry-leading materials with a strong focus on making a rod that casts brilliantly. That much I’d already been told through reading the blurb, but to confirm these claims I treated myself to a day’s live testing of the 10ft short feeder rod on Decoy Lakes Fishery near Peterborough. However, since the rod is nearly entirely made from rare materials, it is incredibly expensive. Costing several hundred pounds makes the Tournament SLR difficult to recommend to most people. It is undoubtedly and phenomenal rod and arguably the best feeder rod in production. However, it costs a lot of money, and unless you’re a serious match fisherman who’s trying a gain a competitive edge or someone who simply wants the best rod available, its difficult to justify the price. Fighting/General Usage Yesterday I used the 11ft pellet waggler rod with a 3000 Shimano Sahara reel and had over thirty 6-9.5lb carp throughout the day. Only lost 2, so not a bad ratio. Was desperate for the double figure but it never came. 0.18 hypersensor (5lb in old money), 6 gram Drennan pellet waggler, size 12 Guru GPW ready tied to 15" of 9lb N-Guage and a wheel barrow full of 8mm mainline pellets. Rod was absolutely perfect handled them all no problem - and some of the carp were very very angry. Casts lovely too but I think the hypersensor line was helping in that respect.
