Then, as if someone had kicked the machine, screams jumped at him in full throat, visions leaped clear. There were a lot of characters to get to know and different points of view in the narration to adjust to, but I never really related to any of them. There was something familiar there, perhaps in the hidden bones, an echo of some old friend; probably the son of a successfully ulcered father.

And not because I put together some amazingly difficult clues, but because it was blatantly obvious. I’m not really sure what the title has to do with the book unless it’s a metaphor, since the playground built for the youngest child barely makes an appearance. As the children begin to explore the structures, they are thrust into a diabolical realm filled with violence and danger.The kids are given equal narrative weight, they're not simply tools of the narrative they are agents within themselves.

The rushing children were hell cut loose in a vast pinball table, a colliding, and banging, and totaling of hits and misses, thrusts and plungings to a grand and as yet unforeseen total of brutalities. The book is full of drama and self-absorbed adults who don't see that their children are playing dangerous games. Unbeknownst to the parents, the playground equipment in Geraldine’s gothic castle has been meticulously designed for a sinister purpose. The novel explores the dark side of human nature and tests the limits of the characters as they confront their fears and navigate the dangerous playground. The fact that he pushes the reader makes it easy for some to think of him as someone who relies on shock and disgust to sell his stories, but if you remove the make-up and look at the bare, naked tale, it is usually a damn good story.La analogía que usa es maravillosa, si tenés dos preciosos objetos de porcelana y uno se rompe, proteges al otro.

You will see some parallels with that movie when you read this one, but it is hard to imagine how far the author went with this one. This book completely captured my attention and not necessarily because I liked the characters but because of all the hints of what was to come - I love books like that - it just gets under my skin and I desperately need to know what has happened and why.Amidst the chaos and carnage, the children face unimaginable challenges and must confront their own fears and differences.

Beauregard does a great job of showcasing the hurt that was created with Geraldine’s actions as well as how this directly impacted the various characters in the novel. There weren’t any surprises, I figured it all out from the beginning, so I wish there’d been a little more mystery involved. Excellent suspense story of what happens when a couple grows apart and become so wrapped up in their separate, secret lives, that their children go missing right under their noses, because neither husband or wife is paying attention to what’s really going on. You don't Name Drop camps that this fictional nazi worked at/helped design and then not expect me to be questioning the presence of antisemitism and its, extremely disappointing that I've not seen that brought up at all whenever I did see people talking about this book. This is one of those grab-your-popcorn novels, because it is a look into the salacious secrets that hide behind closed doors.No part of this book may be used or reproduced in any manner whatsoever without written permission except in the case of brief quotations embodied in critical articles and reviews. Idk if any other reviews compared it to this, but it’s like the Saw series with the kids as the contestants, fighting for their lives. There are definitely dark undertones throughout the book, but wasn’t until the last third that the sinister actions came to light. Will they find a way to put their differences aside, or be swallowed up by the insidious architecture all around them? She loves cooking and allows her own children (Poppy, Sorrel and baby Ash) a lot of freedom to run around the property secure in the safety of her life.
