Luckily for colored wax everywhere, Duncan proves to be an excellent mediator, and an acceptable (not to mention colorful) solution is found. I’d been writing dialogue for movies and TV for over ten years at that point and thought, hmm… what if I draw on my strengths?

Learners will gain an understanding of how to use simple prefixes and suffixes in relation to their emotions; enabling them to better express the extent of their feelings. The teacher introduces the storybook by firstly pointing to the cover of the big book – which the teacher has placed on the whiteboard ledge and uses a hand pointer to direct the students to what the teacher is asking or referring to in connection to the storybook – to ensure the students have a clear view of the storybook. So Godzila became a put upon stuffed bunny named Huggie and Stick became smaller and less cumbersome and Huggie and Stick was born. There's often a adult twist, as in the illustration for Pink's letter, which complains that Duncan might be stereotyping Pink as a 'girl's color. One day Duncan pulls out his well-used crayon box, and instead of his faithful friends, he finds a pile of letters they've written to him, detailing their complaints and other observations. The students will be able to use and experiment with different materials, techniques, technologies and processes to make Art work (ACAVAM107) (ACARA, 2017). The students sit on the floor in the English / Literacy learning area facing the teacher, whiteboard, teacher chair, the big book – The Day the Crayons Quit – which is placed on the ledge of the Whiteboard and large cut outs of the five – w’s – where, what, who, when and why?

The Day The Crayons Quit (Paperback) - Waterstones

A solid reading level 3 book, this cute story keeps all ages engaged with the bright colorful pictures and cute story. It tells the story of Duncan, a little boy who comes home to find his crayons missing and a stack of letters in their place. Not only are the activities and resources already made for you, there’s also three suggested options of timetabling your reading sessions. The red, gray, and blue crayons feel they are overworked; the beige and white crayons have some identity issues; and the purple, black, yellow, and orange crayons all feel like they should be doing something different than the owner’s wishes. All the students will create a brainstorming and mind mapping document prior to writing their letters.

These lessons are designed for lower years (level 2) based upon connecting the events in the story book – ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing:His crayons have had enough! Kids are constantly coloring themselves and the people they love with the crayons they have on hand. Can they think of any other books they know where the illustrator uses colour or images in a similar way? I also loved the fact that we actually have a children’s story that has the characters actually protesting against being treated unfairly and yet, make that into a fun experience for small children who enjoy drawing things with their crayons.

The dragon accidentally burning a clump of grapes is cute but for me the book really picks up with (no surprise here) the moment when Jeffers gets to draw a penguin. While white children certainly would use the color as flesh, it wasn't exactly on the up and up to assume that white was the de facto skin color.
