He is one with his Legion, both its Astartes and human elements, and that makes him even more effective and interesting to read about. is set to be a truly amazing year for fans of Warhammer fiction, and we’re excited for the opportunity to get together in person again for the Black Library Weekender next year!

Alpharius: head of the hydra, updated primarch [SPOILERS] Alpharius: head of the hydra, updated primarch

The arrival of the Lumineth Realm-lords in Warhammer Age of Sigmar has seen aelves springing up on tabletops around the world – and sparked something of a pointy-eared renaissance in fiction as well. Alpharius has become my favorite primarch and this story makes me need to read more stories of the Alpha legion. In the process they’ve gone from “interesting” to “tiring,” as the twists often seem to fire from out of left field and their triple- and quadruple-crosses just feel convoluted and unnecessary, while new plot revelations around the Alpha Legion tend to feel like similarly unnecessary tweaks that make them even more special and secret.

Liber Xenologis is an in-universe tome, written from the perspective of the intrepid Rogue Trader (and hero of Blackstone Fortress) Janus Draik. Sign up to the Black Library newsletter to be among the first to the latest news about these books, the forthcoming Black Library Celebration, and any future Black Library events. Guy has revisited these novels to align with the epic events of the Indomitus Crusade – so they now dovetail nicely with the ongoing Dawn of Fire series. I only wish Alpharius, and the Alpha Legion at large, could be consistently written in this way - not as overly complicated schemers, but as terrifyingly powerful warriors who can respond to situations coolly and efficiently.

Alpharius: Head of the Hydra - 4plebs Alpharius: Head of the Hydra - 4plebs

Such are his gifts of secrecy and deceit that even his rediscovery has remained an enigma – until now. Nate Crowley – who proved he understands greenskins in the short story ‘The Enemy of My Enemy’ – is telling the tale of the scourge of Armageddon, as related by the creature who probably knows him best. A good example within the same universe as Alpharius: Head of the Hydra is the mystery of what happened to primarchs II and XI and the online lists of myriad clues fans have pieced together. You’ll discover the tales of three such Sisters in a new novel made up of three interlinking stories. For all it's 80ties metal and coke infused madness, every warhammer 40K fan has to admit that space (werewolf) vikings are just a bit silly. A feat that is particularly impressive considering the whole narrative is told from the 1st person perspective of Alpharius. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. My own pet theory is that Alpharius/Omegon never could stick with the limitation of having two bodies.

Book 5 in the Siege of Terra series is landing planetside very soon, featuring the now-iconic styling of the rest of the novels. The miniature depicts Ventris in all his Primaris glory, clad in Mark X armour and bearing all the accoutrements of his office, including the white rose of Pavonis that he earned all the way back in Nightbringer .Black Library limited edition books are works of art in their own right, just as ready to be picked up and read as displayed proudly on your bookshelves. As the resident Goonhammer Chaos Guy, you might expect that I’d jump at the chance to read a book about Alpharius’ origins. There are only 2,500 copies available, so don’t just lurk in the shadows – be prepared to strike if you want it.

Alpharius: Head of the Hydra (Novel) - Lexicanum

This is a great chance to read them again and discover how Guilliman’s defence of Ultramar fits with the other battles of the crusade.

Some authors seem to struggle with the Alpha Legion, putting Alpharius himself at the core of every mission as though he’s the only spy the Imperium has ( Deliverance Lost I’m looking at you here), turning him into a one dimensional mustache twirling scoundrel (“I would have got away with it too if it wasn’t for Rogal Dorn! With the Immaterium in turmoil, the crusade needs stable warp routes if they’re to reach worlds in peril.
