Description

A Dictionary Of Color Combinations is a collection of flat color squares placed in over 300 side-by-side combinations. The original 6-volume work Haishoku Soukan (The complete collection of color combinations), from which this booklet is derived, was published from 1933 to 1934.

Many Git commands accept both tag and branch names, so creating this branch may cause unexpected behavior. The book starts with two-color combinations, and then proceeds to three- and four-color combinations. This explains why the Akashiya Sai watercolor brush markers I have (dye, not pigments, so not actually watercolors nor permanent, but still very bright and pretty) have very evocative names in Japanese (like mouse grey and peony) that get unceremoniously squashed in the English language catalog (silver and magenta just don't do it for me).Printed Matter’s online catalog is one of the largest and most comprehensive databases of artists’ books and related publications. Based on his original 6-volume work from the 1930s, this book offers 348 color combinations, as attractive and sensuous as the book’s own design. An innovative plant-based color guide that includes twenty-five palettes with five hundred natural color swatches, providing inspiration for sustainable fashion, textiles, fine art, floral design, food, medicine, gardening, interior design, and other creative disciplines"--]cProvided by publisher. You as the reader have the freedom to imagine any and every scenario where these colors would mingle with one another.

The dictionary offers insights into the psychology of color and how different combinations evoke specific emotions and moods. With its visually appealing layout and user-friendly format, “A Dictionary of Color Combinations” is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to enhance their understanding and use of color in design. Each named with reference to the seasons, and to plants, and animals, and the colors are often associated with social ranking.

The only English language in the book are the color names; there is no other context, nor suggestions on how to use it. This is a great, tidy reference—I’ve owned it for a couple weeks now and I think I’ll always keep it close for both printmaking and graphic design work (I was pleasantly surprised to find CMYK values for each swatch in the back of this book). The book features a wide range of color palettes, providing inspiration and guidance for designers and artists. Due to the fact that it doesn't exist (to my knowledge) I thought it would be great to have an interactive version of this amazing book. A Dictionary of Color Combinations” is a comprehensive guide providing inspiration and guidance for designers with a wide range of color palettes and insights into the psychology of color. There is an index of CYMK Color Codes, lists of where each color was featured, and also has cutout color chips, making it an ideal book for designers who enjoy being inspired by new color combinations. In 2010 Seigensha reprinted this classic as A Dictionary of Color Combinations, which was applauded by Die Zeit as a source of inspiration filled with a captivating array of “hues we didn’t even know existed. I think most of the English names used in the book are rather ad hoc, while the Japanese terms would actually be recognised in certain specialised occupations, like kimono dyeing, Japanese style painting (or 'nihonga'), lacquerware making, 'ukiyo-e' woodblock printing, etc. Perfect little pocket book, but one must understand that it is just an endless collection of color swatches. A Dictionary of Color Combinations” is a comprehensive guide to color combinations and their harmonious use in various design applications.
