I saw a PDF on the learn Japanese sub-Reddit some time ago but it was missing a lot of the free stories.

There’s literally a book aimed at university-educated native English speakers entitled “How to Read a Book.” A major part of the book discusses how different genres of writing tend to lay out their arguments or plots, and with this in mind, how you should go about reading them. FluentU naturally and gradually eases you into learning Japanese language and culture. You'll learn real Japanese as it's spoken in real life. It’s going to be a challenge but at this point you’ve already overcome eight major hurdles, so I’m confident you can do one more! 重力ピエロ(じゅうりょく ぴえろ)— “A Pierrot” by Isaka Kotaro This time, I’m planning to write an article to introduce graded readers to absolute beginners, and I’d love your recommendations! I’ve created a survey for this, so please tell me about your faves. The other big online library I want to recommend is JGRPG (that's the Japanese Graded Reader Project Group) Sakura Tadoku Lab. While they don't have nearly as large a library as Web Tadoku Books, Sakura Tadoku Lab does come with a few key features. Graded readers have been proven to improve reading skills and encourage thinking skills in a target language. It has 15 short stories in Japanese with literal English translations, then explanations for grammar and vocabulary. There is no furigana which might make these stories difficult for learners not used to reading kanji. Custom kanji display options: You can turn off kanji completely, show all kanji, or display just the characters you know based on grade level, frequency, popular textbooks like Genki I and II, or custom imports from kanji apps like Kanshudo, NativShark, and WaniKani.

G raded Japanese readers make exciting texts like stories, fables and news accessible—even for Japanese beginners! The wide-ranging themes of the 8 books are: Counting Things, Shiritori, Cats in Paintings, the Aesop fable of the Ant and Pigeon, 2 Ryo the Police Officer stories, famous Japanese folk tale The Water of Youth, and A Concert in the Forest. Through universal themes, these stories provide a great resource of foundation vocabulary, and they can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike. Japanese-Japanese dictionary. It might take you longer to decipher the real meanings of the Japanese words you look up—and don’t be surprised if you end up using a Japanese-English dictionary to help translate the dictionary definitions themselves. But using a Japanese to Japanese dictionary will encourage you to think in the language, and help you discover even more new words.Learning beginner level Japanese can be frustrating at times when you want to be able to do more with the language. I often see people asking about reading materials for JLPT N5 and N4 level learners. In a nutshell: Stories that follow a fun character through mischievous happenings with in-depth grammar and vocab explanations. Remember how we hit grade school, with limited reading and writing abilities? We had a core vocabulary but a thirst for knowledge. It’s the same with learning a second—or third or fourth!—language. As long as you’ve got a basic vocabulary, you should be able to read. You won’t understand everything at first, but that comes with the vocabulary and language skills graded readers encourage.
