Sheffield had a gaol in the city's old town hall on Waingate between 1807 and 1842. Wakefield also had a town gaol on George Street between 1800 to 1829.

In prison, waiting for her trial date, Tabitha navigates the prison system. Between her clashes with the warden, a confrontation with other inmates, and trying to figure out how she is going to represent herself., she begins to learn how to survive and even thrive in her environment. In the world outside the prison walls, her small community is filled with outlandish gossip. People continue to come forward with damning evidence; an anonymous letter to the police about the relationship between Tabitha and Stuart, her history of mental illness and hospitalization by the Prosecution, and the bias of those in her own community that do not care for the way she looks or behaves. In her investigation, Tabitha finds that Mr. Rees was not a very kind man. Many people in their little community did not like him and had ample reason to do Mr. Rees wrong. Not all is what it seems and how many will profit from his demise. Tabitha is a small, unprepossessing woman with a vile temper who is on remand for murder. She is accused of killing Stuart Rees, a local schoolteacher who is also involved with the management of the church. She hates being in prison, and resents the fact that she has to share a two-bunk cell with Michaela.Central Government intervention became routine following an Act of 1835 which created the prison inspectorate of the Home Office and was greatly extended by an Act of 1865. Rightmove House Price index House of Correction is an intriguing psychological thriller which shifts between the confinement of prison and a courtroom drama. The House of Correction is an interesting read. It was a book that I read over a weekend and it had me hooked. The main character Tabitha is an absolute mess of a woman and you can't help but admire her. She is damaged, stronger than she thinks and very determined. Her honesty made me laugh and warm to her. I enjoyed the way the story was split into 2 parts, the initial part of the arrest and incarceration and then the court case. An enjoyable read.

Scams are promoted using terms such as an offer of unique investment opportunities, free pension review, legal loophole, cash bonus or as a government endorsed scheme and victims are being approached through cold calling, text message or in person door to door. For first-time buyers trying to clamber onto the housing ladder, this will no doubt come as a major disappointment. EXCERPT: ... now the person who had abused her was dead. Mr Rees the maths teacher. Stuart Rees her neighbour. The pillar of his little community. His body in her shed, his car parked outside, his blood all over her.

Moreover, in the year to October 2021 the price of detached houses rose by 14pc, compared to the price of all flats rising by 6.6pc. Tabitha had heard of those dreams where people find themselves on a stage, not knowing the lines, not even knowing what the play is. She had never been on a stage and she had never dreamed about being on stage, so she had never understood the anxiety behind it. She understood now.” Pension scams are on the increase in the UK and under some schemes individuals have had limited companies set up in their name.
