Yes, she lied big time. Because once James was able to face Naomi again, she realized that what had been there was gone. Poof. That heartfelt love Naomi professed? Nowhere to be found. Consider adding a topic to this template: there are already 3,648 articles in the main category, and specifying |topic= will aid in categorization. Does the search for one's truest identity necessarily mean rejecting all that has gone before? ( Booklist) so at the end of the day, i think she wrote a fantastic book about being emotionally unmoored. whether she wrote a great book about amnesia is debatable, but i think the emotional ups and downs of youth are captured well, and it is a book teen girls will probably eat up with a spoon. (because i know you guys are still reading this, just because i told you not to)

Elsehwere ahs to be one of my favourite books ever so I was very keen to read this, another book also This book steers clear of the fantasy land that dominates many YA contemporaries, which I greatly appreciated because it allowed the author to more fully discuss what would happen to this character and those around her in a thought-provoking way.

Naomi is an ordinary high school student who goes to an international school. One day, she loses her memory for the past 4 years. But gradually she begins to search for her identity, Naomi's memory loss is also just one of the many losses undergone by the major characters in the book. Both James and Will have lost significant family members, and Naomi's parents have experienced a series of losses, including the failure of their marriage, which ended during the period Naomi can't remember. In part, how these characters fare depends on how well they, like Naomi, are able to discover new lives, new opportunities, to make up for all they have lost. Naomi's dad and the whole orphan plot arc. This book is very 'coming of age'-y, very 'finding yourself'-sy. Just brilliant. The concept of losing one's memory allows the reader to wonder how they would cope if they forgot absolutely everything about themselves, contemplating on the essence of one's identity... all those good things associated with adolescence and growing up. At the end of the summer, right before school opens, Naomi takes a header down the steps and loses not just her balance, but her memory as well. She wakes up in the hospital to discover her cognitive skills are normal, but she remembers nothing about the last four years of her life. And a lot has happened in those four years! All of seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth grades are a complete blank. Naomi learns some things about herself from her best friend, Will. (The two of them are the dedicated co-editors of the school yearbook.) Will informs Naomi that she has a steady boyfriend named Ace, who’s a star tennis player. But even when she sees the handsome Ace, Naomi doesn’t remember him, or anything about their relationship. When she gets home from the hospital, Naomi goes through her room to find things that will help her piece together her past. In her nightstand drawer she finds birth control pills. Yikes! What could that mean? She also finds a diary, which unfortunately turns out to be a food diary. A food diary?! Naomi wonders what sort of person keeps a diary of everything they’ve eaten over the past six months? She begins to question the person she was before her accident. If you’ve ever entertained the idea of being able to have a “do over” in life, you’ll enjoy Naomi’s unique situation as she gets reacquainted with herself and begins to create a new future. Subject Headings & Major Themes : discovering her unconscious. He calls an ambulance and after pretending to be her boyfriend he goes eith her

Zevin does a great job of portraying a person who is lost and directionless in life and who is trying to get a grip on her own self. But what is the most impressive is the realness (if there is such a word) of all characters. They are flawed, they are damaged, they are often unlikable, but ultimately very real. Here's the question that this book raises for me: even if you find a romance with a person who understands you and may be your best friend, if there was no spark in the beginning, can that passion develop? Even if you love someone, if there's no push toward a sexual relationship, should you have one? Or: is an essential component of a successful relationship missing?I think to enjoy a head trauma/amnesiac book, it's best just to go along for the ride and read the story not getting all caught up in the logistics of the scenario, yeah? Naomi seems to be very much like two different people: The Naomi before the accident, and the Naomi after the accident. Do you think it’s possible to reinvent yourself? What would you lose or gain in the process?
