She then spends every waking moment thinking of him, his muscles, his body against hers, and, well, you get the point. This bestselling, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy is an unmissable treat, perfect for fans of Christina Lauren's UNHONEYMOONERS or Emily Henry's BEACH READ. Author: Sally Thorne lives in Canberra, Australia, and spends her days writing funding submissions and drafting contracts (yawn!

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Now a film starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell, globally bestselling author Sally Thorne’s hilarious workplace comedy is all about the fine line between love and hate.I came across this one after finishing Ali Hazelwood’s “The Love hypothesis” (I know, don’t judge me on that, but it’s got a similar vibe to it) and I thought this, too, was a heartwarming story. And now, Josh, you’re telling me you didn’t get a proper date when you could have denied the sex and maybe, I don’t know, asked for a date instead, Or Something?

Then at the end of one particularly vitriolic and hurtful day, after their usual riling of each other, the two share a hot and heated kiss in the office elevator and the game rules change. I’m pretty sure we’ve realized how that sets girls up for complicated relationships with attraction at best and abusive and violent relationships at worst. Although the author made it very clear that Josh is supposed to be some sort of demi-god, that still doesn’t justify Lucy’s obsession with him. The story revolves around two executive assistants at a publishing company who are pitted against each other to win a big promotion. As 21st century feminists are writing and reading romance fiction, we all know that the 20th century de riguer fainting scene is both stupid and improbable unless the heroine has diabetes or sunstroke. For two grown people in a professional workplace to thrive off a game this petty is a little ridiculous and unlikely, and it’s hard to believe the love story isn’t as obvious to the characters as it is to the reader. The dialogue in this book just sparkles and the sparks of attraction between Lucy and Joshua just explode off the page yet without the too-close detailing of the sex act. We all make inferences about other people from the evidence we’re given, but so much of this story rests on the reader believing Lucy about the other characters’ personalities and motives when in actuality her guess is as good as anyone’s.
