A Brown County Christmas

An extended weekend getaway in Brown County is full of holiday cheer, making the upcoming holidays extra special.

From visiting with Santa, to watching an entertaining holiday show, to witnessing the light parade, to having a quiet candlelight dinner, there are nonstop holiday events scheduled in Nashville, Brown County. Don’t miss the kickoff at the tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. in front of the Brown County History Center. Come early for music and refreshments served at 5:30 p.m.

On the same day and Nov. 30, find the perfect gifts for everyone on your list at the Holiday Arts and Craft Show located at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center. Select from the best of weaving, glass, pottery, jewelry, fine art, fiber art, quilting, knitting, photography, woodcarving, baskets and more. Other scheduled events include:

Believe, a Brown County Christmas
December 6-8, 13-15, 20-22
Fridays 7:30 p.m. / Saturdays 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. (no 2pm show on the 14th) / Sundays 2 p.m. at the Brown County Playhouse
This annual holiday live stage show is filled with music, songs and characters to entertain the entire family. An annual production from Golden Ticket Productions, lights, stage sets, and amazing actors fill the stage with Christmas pageantry.

Victorian Candlelight Holiday Dinners
Dec. 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 from 5 – 9 p.m.
Story Inn’s dining room will be illuminated exclusively with candles and oil lamps. The staff will be dressed in authentic Victorian garb and live traditional Christmas music will be playing from the piano. Oftentimes, the staff and dinner guests even join in on carols!

Santa Train
Dec. 6 at 8:30 p.m.
Jackson Township Fire Department (4831 Helmsburg Road)
Kids of all ages are invited to climb aboard and visit St. Nick on his very own express train, presented by the Indiana Rail Road Company!

Children’s Christmas Benefit Auction
Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. – Head to Out of the Ordinary restaurant for Brown County’s 41st Annual Children’s Christmas Benefit Auction. Proceeds from auction items ensure that children in need that live in our community have a new item of clothing for Christmas. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Reindeer Romp
December 7 at 1 p.m.
Grab your shoes and participate in the 20th Annual Reindeer Romp, an 8K run or a 5K run/walk at the Brown County State Park Nature Center.

Breakfast with Santa
Dec. 7 & 8 from 8:30 – 11 a.m. at the Brown County Inn
Dig in to the delicious breakfast buffet and top it all of with an oh-so-tasty hot chocolate bar! Reservations strongly recommended.

Stuff a Stocking
Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Children are invited this Christmas to follow a map to over 25 local Brown County merchants to gather treats, ornaments, toys, and more to stuff their Christmas stocking!

Christmas Log and Country Home Tour
Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Go on a home tour of five local homes and a Catholic church decorated for the holidays! This tour is self-guided, with homeowners at each location to provide history on the homes and church. On the tour, you will see three log homes, two country homes, and one church all decked out in festive holiday decor. A shuttle service will be provided.

Uplands Winter Wine Market
December 7 from noon – 5 p.m.
The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail will be gathering at the historic Brown County Art Gallery to offer a holiday shopping experience like no other. Taste wines from across the Indiana Uplands, sample specialty foods from local artisans, and shop for the best in Indiana wines, wine accessories, and more.

Holiday Light Parade & Toy Drive
December 7 at 6pm
Village of Nashville
Enjoy a parade filled with a variety of unique and brightly lit floats. Residents and visitors are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the local Salvation Army.

Steele’s Country Christmas
December 8 from 1pm – 4pm
T.C. Steele State Historic Site
Celebrate the season in the Large Studio and the House of the Singing Winds at the site’s annual holiday program. Visitors will be welcomed into the fully decorated historic studio and house to get a glimpse of an Indiana Christmas in the 1920s!

Creekside Retreat Holiday Arts and Craft Show
December 14 from 10am – 5pm
Creekside Retreat
This show will feature handmade items from local artisans and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Brown County Weekend Backpack Program. Perfect place to get some holiday shopping done for a good cause!

Christmas Bird Count
December 14 at 8 a.m. at the Brown County State Park Nature Center
Take part in the world’s largest citizen science project put on by the Audubon Society! Meet at the Brown County State Park Nature Center before splitting up and heading out into the park to count all the birds you can!

Santa’s Zip N’ Sip
December 1 – 31
eXplore Brown County
Ho, ho, ho Santa is at eXplore Brown County to zip with you and to find out if you’ve been good! Santa will share the beauty of the winter landscape in the Brown County hardwood forest. The terrain looks so different…the vista opens and you can see for miles.
