Helen removes the baby from herself causing her to bleed out but before she does she consumes their child and the protagonist has sex with her corpse. So if you’re looking for a Bonnie and Clyde or Mickey and Mallory kind of wild romance– this is not where you will find it. Those are the questions that are swimming through the greymatter within my skull after having just finished reading DEAD INSIDE by Chandler Morrison. obviously VERY dark humour, but if you’re into that, you might have a blast reading this just like i did. I’m talking about the kind of book that will be stuck with me for a very long time because this is absolutely insane.

It isn’t clear what happened to the protagonist whether he was caught or whether like Helen he worked his way up to murder. It’s not a long read, I did it in a couple of sittings but you could spread it further because the chapters are quite short, so you can pick it up and put it down as required without having to stop part way through a section.Shamelessly, I'll admit that more than being disturbed or repulsed, I found myself laughing my lungs out while reading it. Have you ever had one of those moments where you just sit back, stare off into space, and wonder to yourself, how did I end up here? SO, the main character in this book conveniently works as a security guard at a hospital, because obviously it’s the perfect place for him to indulge in all his fucked up desires. I loved the dynamic between the twisted main characters, who just happened to be a nihilistic necrophiliac and a cannibal doctor.

Now one thing to remember is that if so many people struggled with this book then you’re going to need to pick a reader who can deal with it if they’re performing for an audience, but the thing that actually struck me about this is that not only did he deal with the subject matter but at one point during a fairly graphic description he sounded like he was about to climax. It’s a bizarre reading experience that I can see many not even being able to finish because it’s that sick, bloody, and violently graphic with a crazy sexual twist. In contrast to MC she actually longs to be “normal” but at the same time she is much more able to share her darkness with someone else. It's like Morrison crawled into the deepest, most demented corners of his mind, pulled out the most revolting, disgusting, fucked up, deranged, necrophile obscenities and fashioned them into prose. It's truly hilarious how our main character is obsessed with existing outside society, but in reality he is nothing but a product of the patriarchy with thoughts and feelings just like so many pathetic men I've unfortunately known IRL.We are introduced to our protagonist, a hospital security guard who is a necrophiliac, as he can not get aroused by living women despite trying on several occasions and he is content with his life, until one day he catches a doctor in the hospital named Helen committing acts of cannibalism in the morgue.

He has concerns that she is going to eat the baby but she protests saying it is different because its their baby although he doesn’t want to claim it at all. The whole story kind of feels like it has a veil of thirteen year old goth edge to it, but I’d say that’s intentional because the character narrating is one of these “strange and unusual” types who doesn’t have much in the way of social skills, after all, he doesn’t usually have to woo his ladies.Helen is persistent and makes her presence known in his life which he doesn’t appreciate, things become even more complicated when Helen tells him that she is pregnant with his baby. One is a hospital security guard who has taboo sexual desires, the other a maternity doctor who has an appetite for something you won’t find on any restaurant menu. The book is extremely well written, and I would love to get into his author's mind, on how he came up with this idea for a book. MC and Helen are bound to be doomed and despite the short intermezzo encompassing their unity and Helen’s efforts, it is clear from the very first page that there are no rose gardens in their future.

Things seem to be going smoothly for this utterly depraved individual until he meets a vile woman even more fucked-up then he is.

Let’s go ahead and address the obvious: this book is hyped as an incredibly fucked up, extreme horror story, and it definitely fits the bill when it comes to depravity. The Narration is performed by Daniel Caravetta and at first I found it kind of annoying (sorry Daniel) but then I noticed something about the way he reads this story. Despite the protagonist being quite anti-social he tolerates Helen’s presence in his life even coming to enjoy her company. It's like trying to assign a rating to some bloke breaking into your backyard while you're having a barbecue with your mates and throwing a live iguana on the grill – you can't look away, and you probably feel guilty for enjoying it. Since the author made me squirm a time or two, it bothered me; Kudos to the author, that has only happened a few times.
