About this deal

They set sail for treasure after speaking with a puppet, which unbeknownst to them was orchestrated by the sea monster himself and the whole thing is just an elaborate trap created by a sea monster to eat greedy pirates. The first one I read in French (which is not my first language) so I didn't really get the benefit of all the wordplay. It has been designed to deliver a sequence of lessons that are in line with the National Curriculum.

They images are really quite dark which portrays the darness of a pirates life and the journey they are venturing on. I would really recommend it as a book to read a class, if only to see the amazing expressions on their faces. A fiddler comes to town singing about an island full of treasure and Captain Purplebeard and his crew jump at the chance to find more loot!A mysterious old pirate tells a tavern of salty seadogs about an island bursting with hidden treasure. Stepping Stones are our short term literacy plans for teachers which introduce our text-based mastery approach to writing. This builds towards a final extended writing task in which pupils can apply the skills with confidence and independence. But the monstrous nature of the story is lightened with such sly humor, kids are more likely to feel empowered than frightened. And the details of the crew and their changing reactions is pretty funny (if you aren’t too attached to pirates).

Each plan comprises 15 sessions to teach a small number of key writing skills from the national curriculum. My kids love looking at the illustrations and pointing out details of the pirates' costumes and evidence of the Pirate Cruncher. Use the first line of this book as the starting point for your own story (‘It was unusually quiet in…’). I decided that I don't want to pirate, because they don't know when to stop getting gold and treasure. The wordplay and repetition went right over our daughter's head, but it really appealed to all of the grown ups who were present at story time. Now available in paperback with an Audio CD A highly successful computer games illustrator, Jonny's work is visually appealing. Very difficult to read, especially while holding to book to the side so people can see the pictures. Each pirate seems to have their own individual characteristics which children can explore in more detail. Twinkl are offering a collection of free interactive resources and worksheets for parents throughout the school closure.

Elementary school kids will be especially delighted to see the cunning of the monster in finding his own meals. The pirates do get eaten in the end, so it's pretty dark, but so playfully written and beautifully illustrated, most kids will be fine.
