About this deal

An enemy monster’s turn can vary depending on the results rolled and where the dice land on the board, with the volcano dice tower providing a fun method for building tension and further pushing the emphasis on luck that the King of Tokyo series has always had.

Players still take on the role of giant kaiju – but now, instead of smashing up a city, they’re working together to smash up an even bigger monster on a volcano-crowned tropical isle, and thus find out who’ll truly be crowned… er… King of Monster Island. The random scatter that results makes the boss’ behaviour unpredictable, yet also gives good players a chance to plan ahead because star results on the player’s dice can be used to take boss dice off the board. In the meantime, I’d have to wait for 4-5 people to play through their turn and you never knew what your rolls what be. Cards can be purchased using energy cubes, with the new deck being more focused around cooperative play – enabling players to share resources, benefits and buffs. You’ll need to take risks with your rolls and think on your feet, switching plans if, say, you don’t get the feet you need to move to your target zone. Monster Island first premiered on June 1, 2019 on the Syfy channel, [2] exactly one day after Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Having been producing news, features, previews and opinion pieces for Dicebreaker for the past three years, Alex has had plenty of opportunity to indulge in her love of meaty strategy board games and gothic RPGS.

King Of New York was similar but threw in the added (slight) complexity of destroying the city and encountering the army.Well for starters, King Of Monster Island is a co-op game for 2-5 players and this time you’re all working together to battle a single huge boss monster that is intent on opening a portal on an island for its own nefarious purposes. You get a choice of three foes of increasing difficulty, each of which has an easier and harder side to their monster sheet. Like any co-op game, players will need to share their ideas and strategies with one another if they want to achieve victory. Each boss monster also gets aset number of dice, which you’ll drop into the delightful volcano dice tower.
