Things are split nicely between the speakers around the viewer with smooth movement, and the sub-woofer handles those lower frequencies nicely.

There are also a handful of shots that look a little softer compared to the rest of the film, which otherwise looks razor sharp and crisp,to where even individual grains of sand show up, though so do the wire effects around the floating Baron (something that I assume was hidden better on previous home video releases). In particular, it is possible to configure what chroma subsampling modes should be used for each individual HDMI video mode. The internal narration is well layered while there is a real sense of a cohesive sound scape that helps to elevate the visual majesty of the piece.

And it’s noticeable right away that Villeneuve seems to have ditched his apparent previous taste (evidenced by earlier sci-fis Arrival and Blade Runner 2049) for rather muted HDR.

It’s a good track and I really appreciated it, along with Sammon’s, because otherwise there isn’t anything else in this set offering anything nearly as in-depth about the film’s production and troubles. The blue eyes on the native people are eye-popping as well along with some of the lighting used within the confines of the sandy castle complex. Boasting a decent budget and a director (and cinematographer) with enough vision to realise the ideas without exceeding their budgetary or technological reach, the native 4K rendition is supremely detailed, bringing forth the freckles on Ferguson's face, the spice in the air during the particularly clever opening shots, and the weathered, ancient civilisation vibe to the intricate complexes that represent the majority of the sets on Arakis.
