About this deal

I really enjoyed the romance. Like really, really enjoyed it. It’s sometimes hard to include romance in books like this that are so suspenseful, and it is especially hard when you don’t know if those in that romance pairing are guilty. Despite the unknowns, I found myself swooning over this guy and I really loved the two together!

When five best friends go hunting early in the morning, still drunk from the previous party last night, something is bound to go wrong. One of the boys ends up shot dead and none of the four remaining boys are willing to utter a word on the killer. I have to say that I really wasn’t sure how Our Story was going to end (and won’t put any spoilers here) but the last quarter of the book had me hooked, and I finished it in tears. For a short time during the 60’s they used the violence, influence, intimidation and most importantly their menacing presence to become the most powerful and feared gang leaders in London. They owned a number of successful clubs such as Esmerelda’s Barn where the rich and famous stars were happy to visit and be seen in the company of the two brothers. Judy Garland, Stubby Kaye, Barbara Windsor, Danny La Rue, Diana Dors, Alan Lake were often to be seen in their company and indeed the twins at one point were attempting to form a link with the Mafia. Unfortunately Ron and Reg began to believe in their own invincibility and should have heeded the words a Mafia boss Angelo Bruno once said to them....never do your own dirty work and never trust too many people. Otty and Joe’s decision to hide behind humour is further complicated by the arrival at the agency of Scottish hunk Fraser Langham and as inevitable as day following night, you know this will be the start of a messy love triangle. Fraser, initially cast as misogynistic interloper is one of those characters you want to loathe simply for coming between Otty and Joe and although he’s a perfectly acceptable candidate to win Otty’s heart I couldn’t prevent myself from viewing him as I would a pantomime villain, booing and hissing at his latest move to woo Otty. There is some humour for a while in the way Joe and Fraser clash heads, each man vying for Otty’s attention but it is short lived. Zavallım benim. Kate throws herself into her work, hoping to find justice for the slain boy. However, not all is as it appears and before she knows it, Kate is hit with a truth bomb that the boy she thought she knew... This work of non fiction collects two crime brothers' reflections of who they are, who they WERE, where they are now and where they may be remaining for the rest of their lives. Were the streets of London possibly any safer in that era if you were mugged and went to the Krays instead of the police?

Shep ile olan ilişkisi, konuşmaları ve işbirliği de çok güzeldi.<3The Krays will continue to intrigue us and morality seekers will continue to probe the fascination with them. Based on the last 5 mins, if not the whole book, I feel like I've just been on a rollercoaster of emotion, as to whether or not I would get the ending my heart desired... but I'm not going to tell you if I did or not! Suspend your disbelief that a small town DA is going to make a high school girl who attends school with the victim and suspects his assistant. Pretend that teenagers are better detectives than the police. Then get reading THIS IS OUR STORY. Narrated mostly by Kate, with some texts and police interviews and partially by the shooter, Ashley Elston crafted an interesting story about power, privilege and teenage drama.

Sorry, I normally like this author’s books but this one was just totally underwhelming. It started off quite well, setting the scene, introducing what sounded like interesting characters and I liked the idea of setting it in a writers’ room - but then - I just lost interest. It did take me a little while to find myself immersed in this love story which I thought didn’t really take off until the arrival of Fraser, the cat set amongst the pigeons. Also there is a huge emphasis on the script writing process which I think is to the detriment of exploring Otty and Joe’s romance. Being holed up in a room for hours on end, hoping for the creative juices to flow sounds like jolly hard work and I think the author has managed to convey all the highs and lows and tedium of this world in fine detail. I could visualise the script writing team bouncing off the walls with the amount of coffee they all drink!! Five boys went hunting. Four survived. And they aren't saying which of them accidentally shot Grant. Kate interns for the assistant DA. As part of her job, she becomes an involved in the investigation. Everybody, including Kate is hiding something about Grant and his murder.

In Kate Marino's town, this group is the River Point Boys, prep school royalty who host the wildest parties and have their hands in every cookie jar. This is definitely the last book I read on the Krays so I thought I would let them have the last word. The main character, Kate, was terrific. I connected with her right from the beginning. I loved how dedicated she was to figuring out the truth behind the mystery. She wanted justice and I admired how hard she fought for that. She didn't necessarily think all of her plans out before she executed them, but I thought that helped keep the book exciting.

Customer reviews

These two men, along with their contemporaries on the other manors, were of their times. They had the code of honour and ethics, but still thought a lot of their family. It's a whole will they - won't they sort a book, but it also covers whether Otty's family will ever accept her new career move, let alone the fact she clearly doesn't want to be with the man that the family had been rooting for her to marry since childhood. I loved that we get inside our male lead Joe’s head and heart in Our Story. Not only does it build the conflict (because we know what Otty and Joe are feeling when they don’t) but it makes it easy to relate to him and get that all important emotional connection. I saw Otty as much stronger and grounded than he was (not necessarily a good thing) – for me she was the practical one and tried to get on with everything whilst he was the creative/dreamer. Both of them start out with insecurities and they worry about pleasing others. I despaired they would ever get together. The ebb and flow is at the right pace and kept me engaged. There’s something with thrillers that just capture my attention and DEMAND to be read in one sitting, it’s not my fault, I swear. :) :) :)
