About this deal

If you’re also typically making single cups of coffee, even for a group, you’ll also be great with the 1L Bonavita kettle.

It also has stainless steel container to boil the water, which is a big plus for the product. Hopefully, we will start to see it gain more popularity in the long-run. One of the best things about the Narita dual voltage travel kettle is that it can run off 120 or 240 volts, so you can enjoy your tea or coffee anywhere in the world. It is quite small, lightweight with a capacity of 0.7 litres. Even though you’re only boiling water in your kettle, you’ll occasionally want to make sure you’re removing any built-up scale residue. Kettles with a large opening may let you fit your whole hand into the pot for cleaning, while a smaller opening might require a brush. Some stainless steel kettles are also prone to rust if not properly maintained. The other big bonus of electric is that many electric kettles let you set a specific target water temperature. This is a big win. Most fussy-coffee brew methods have a preferred temp to achieve an optimized extraction for a given brew method. For my pour over, it’s 205F. For Megan’s AeroPress preference, it’s 185F. According to Peterson, many of these companies were adding bells and whistles — like in-machine grinders — to make for a higher price-point. “To us, they were just adding intimidation factors to the consumer,” he said. But they were also adding validation of a new type category.

Customer reviews

I mentioned that Megan likes to brew an AeroPress at 185, and I like to make pour over at 205. To switch between two (or more) target temperatures on this kettle is literally two button presses. And it’s already at my setting, I just need to fill the kettle (an easy and thoughtless maneuver first thing in the morning) and press on the on/off button. Nothing else. The kettle has boil-dry protection that switches off the device when the water level is too low, so you do not need to worry about forgetting about turning off the kettle. Choosing a travel kettle can be a difficult choice, and let’s be honest, most of us don’t even know why we even need travel kettles at all. Most of us are actually not that familiar with using kettles, because it isn’t a not a staple in all households around the world

For those hiking or camping outside, you would have to boil water on a heater or even start a campfire to just get a hot cup of tea or coffee. That’s where a travel kettle really comes in handy. The only other significant area of criticism from long-term owners is one that many steel kettles face: rust. But some added TLC, like routine cleaning and towel drying, should stymie rust issues. Aside from that, the Lardera Smart Electric Kettle offers its weight (light as that is) in style, performance, and quality of materials. It's also one of the smoothest-pouring kettles I've used. Simplicity, precision and affordability have always been important selling points for the Bonavita brand. It launched in late 2011, and its two most popular products perform key coffee-making functions that may seem simple, yet are difficult for hardware to do repeatedly and consistently. At the beginning of 2021, Smartco informed Espresso Supply that it was ending its trademark agreement with its distributor of nine years. “At the end of the day, we had an agreement — and contract — and it expired,” said Carolyn Chen, a vp at Smartco who is also helping relaunch the Bonavita brand. “When we tried to renew terms, we couldn’t come to an agreement.”With this agreement, Bonavita the brand was essentially the child of a Chinese manufacturer and Washington distributor. One side made the products, the other sold and marketed them. But, the two parents didn’t always see eye to eye. Pour spout: Standard | Temperature settings: Precise temperature control and hold | Volume: 1.5 liters But as Bonavita seeks to relaunch, the broader atmosphere has changed. Bonavita’s initial rise came because it represented a growing home craft coffee culture. While most households still have an automatic drip machine at home, there are new players in town. For example, startups like Cometeer are making instant coffee into something even industry professionals are paying attention to. Espresso Supply was, for the most part, victorious in these legal disputes, but they took time — and almost certainly a lot of money. And, according to Peterson, there was a growing fear that the Bonavita business was stagnating as a result. “A commitment to newness was lost in the shuffle,” he said. With that came another realization on the Bonavita team that “to move the brand forward Smartco has got to hold it.”

This piece was written by Derek Rose, the coffee and tea expert for The Spruce Eats. He researches a variety of coffee products, from measuring scoops to commercial espresso machines, and interviews field experts for their insight. He's a fan of non-electric coffee makers, typically using the Bodum Brazil French Press at home. This is, in some ways, the easiest question. If you find yourself using or wishing for an electric kettle, you probably have a sense of the size you need. If you’re unsure, and you’re mostly making coffee (or tea) for yourself, the 1L will do you great. So Gross was hired by a Chinese manufacturer named Smartco to build out what would ultimately become the Bonavita trademark. In 2012, Smartco entered into a trademark agreement with a Washington-based distribution company called Espresso Supply, Inc and began selling the brand’s kettles and brewers nationwide. Both Espresso Supply and Gross declined to comment on this article.Bonavita, Hellweg said, “did an amazing job at educating [consumers] on what goes into a proper filter brewer.” For a little bit, he recounted, Bonavita and Moccamaster were the only options. The company is also planning a marketing bonanza, tied with key coffee professional events and trade shows in March and April. “We know March is the big time when you’ve got your housewares shows,” said Chen. “This is when buyers are looking — you have to get things in.”

But it could take out some of the air and buzz that was once relegated toward developments from brands like Bonavita. “The way Bonavita made brewing at [home] coffee more accessible — and coffee pros had to acquiesce that people can make [good coffee] at home — is the same with Cometeer,” said Carguilo.

And for all you non-Americans horrified by the Fahrenheit temps, the kettle does have an easy-and-convenient conversion button for you, and works just as well in Celsius mode. 😝 The Lloytron Small Kettle holds almost 1 litre of water at a time and comes extra, which are two cups. With universal voltage, you will never have to worry about finding yourself in a foreign country without your morning cup of tea or coffee again. It’s lightweight and when travelling between destinations, you can use the kettle to store your cups, tea bags and coffee. Box Dimensions (L x W x H) Though quite a new brand, this dual voltage travel kettle from DCIGNA definitely seems to have quite a few fans. It could be it’s size, at only 0.5L, making it an easy travel accessory to bring along with you. Seasoned travellers know that investing in travel kettles is a great way to ensure you have a steady supply of hot water whenever and wherever you go. You never know when you might need it, even if it is just to soak your feet at the end of the day after a long day exploring new places.
