About this deal

There is a near-limitless variety of aggregates and gravel combinations to choose from for a path and each variety has its own strengths and best applications.

Application: DrainTex is a standard nonwoven geotextile filter membrane with excellent drainage and filtration properties. DrainTex has a stable but open structure making it ideal for lining trenches when constructing land drains. DrainTex also acts as a filter membrane, separating the aggregate from the soil, thus preventing the aggregate from mixing with the soil and reducing the efficiency and capacity of the drain. Most residential gravel driveways do not need heavy-duty grade geotextile fabrics. On the other hand, if you live in an area where there is a great deal of rain and has poor draining soil, maybe heavy-duty would be what you need. All in all, the other grades are more than adequate for a residential driveway. Some of the major benefits of laying landscape fabric under your gravel driveway, it allows for excellent drainage, keeps the gravel even, and prevents weeds from working their way through the gravel. On top of that, this fabric will increase the lifetime of your driveway at a minimal cost. Cover the area carefully, but make sure that your fabric has an overlap of at least 10cm over the joints and edges. 30cm is ideal if you want your weed membrane to be exceptionally stable. Once the layer is laid or covered, you’ll need to carefully space pegs around the fabric, too, so that it holds in place nice and secure. Step 4: Lay Out the Surface Woven geotextile fabrics create a separation layer to prevent the gravel from sinking into the subgrade. Steve installed our woven geotextile fabric under gravel to stabilize the ground for his new building. Not all gravel used in garden or landscaping ends up as pathways or mulch. Some gravel is used to control drainage or water movement. In either case, landscape fabric has a part to play in creating systems such as: A weed barrier under gravel is easy to lay, and it’s recommended as gravel can be a real problem for unwanted growth. Knowing how to lay membrane for gravel is similar to above, you will need to make sure your surface soil is clear and that your weed membrane has a healthy overlay.
