The Emerald Night instructions show you how to add the Power Function motor, IR receiver and battery box. Powered UP may be the better way to go if you don't already have Power Functions. Substitute the PU hub and motor in place of the PF parts.Thank you for showing how the 7-wide ends are constructed! These 3x3 plates sure are a godsend, aren't they? Designer Pierre Normandin has done a commendable job of producing something that not only looks good, but which can also be used as a regular LEGO train, on LEGO's ridiculously tight curves and points, should you wish. Personally I think it looks a bit daft when traversing them, but it's good that it's possible.

To be fair, and I'm not saying that it never happens, but on a few occasions that I am aware of, TLG was already working on a similar set on its own before the corresponding Ideas submission, and consequently doesn't approve it in the review stage.
