About this deal

Gold Plated 3m Single Sided Cable, K612 PRO Reference Class Heaphones, 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) to 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) Gold Plated Adapter See more About your specific headphones you mention. I have two units of K702, and currently they're my joint favourite headphone with my Sennheiser HD560s. K702 has a really quite unique soundstage that is wide & expansive with some very impressive overall detail/resolution (all my experiences I'm talking about are when EQ'd to the Harman Curve). My HD560s has a narrower soundstage, but it's very accurate positionally within that less expansive soundstage.......the bass is also very very good in the HD560s. So they're my two favourite headphones out of the various headphones you see listed in my sig........you can see there's still differences between headphones when EQ'd to the same Target Curve. The K702 on the other hand is now my daily driver; I find myself reaching for it over all of the headphones I have here at the pad including the venerable HD600. Only the pad bounce (between 60Hz and 100Hz) is obvious. There are some small issues at 300Hz and 600Hz but are not alarming.

Draconian - Bloodflower [24/96 FLAC]: Yeah, feels dark. I was afraid because of the thrash segment. After that I realized that was about signature brightness of Megadeth. It's not that bright here. Well, it's not a direct hit for the genre though. Beyers should be better for that. Female vocals are whole another story, sounds excellent. This is a purely subjective review/opinion - my gear, my ears, my experience. Please take it all with a grain of salt - especially if it does not match your own experience. As a big fan of the AKG K701, I was hoping for the best with the K-612, but concerned that they might be a disappointment. I needn't have worried - if anything, they sound a little better than the K-701. My full sized headphone journey has been a long one (mostly mid-fi), but a distinctly enjoyable one. It has allowed me to learn a lot about my own preferences, and also allowed me to spend considerable time with some good, some great, and some not-so-good cans. Note that those are not the only artists that I've listened. Those are only my favourite ones for the genres I specified.OK. I bought the K612 in part because of this recommendation and discussion. Thank you for the time you put into your review. I'll let you know if I concur. If it helps any, the 702 is my daily driver and is my favorite headphone to listen to. You already read the articles so that would be my personal recommendation. For your first pair, I can’t think of anything better except maybe a 6XX which is actually my top overall choice for newcomers to the hobby. It’s not really suited for gaming IMO as I prefer something more open like a 702.

When one uses a 10 band equalizer and pulls the 1.5kHz slider up or down 2.5dB this is audible. There are small differences between the models but not substantial ones. I have owned several other AKGs, including the K240s, the K702 65th Anniversaries, the and Q701 Quincy Jones Signatures (basically the same thing as an updated K701/702). The K612s sound-wise lie somewhere between the K240s and the K7-series, while having a unique sound signature of their own. The comfort level is pretty high, but I find the need to reposition the angle of the headband every now and then to maintain the comfort during long periods of use. The headband itself is just not that soft, so my skin doesn't like it. I think this may be more problematic for bald people, but I may be wrong. I found this explanation (worth reading) [ http://lsirui.wordpress.com/2009/04/15/k701-vs-hd650-electrical-measurement/] when I was originally researching my K701. It also applies to the K702 and K612 IMO. The better the amp's ability to deliver - the better the overall bass response and frequency overall should be. Anyway - don't skimp on amping. I'm using my AKG K612 PRO headphone with my Fiio X3 2nd Gen dedicated DAP. Currently I don't own any headphone amp but planning to buy an A5. I'm gonna update this review when I do.Below the K612 and K702 measured by Sonarworks. Though they have a test fixture that is much like mine. Both my NFB-12 and the LD MKIV (to my ears) are very good with the K702 and K612. I definitely don’t feel I’m missing anything. My actual preference with both is the NFB-12 over the LD. The impedance of the K612 is 120 Ω which is a value nicely in-between the more common 32 and 300 Ohm. It can be driven well by portable players directly and C’Moy alike amplifiers as it is fairly efficient and doesn’t need much voltage nor much current which makes it a headphone that is very easy to drive.

K612 PRO | Reference studio headphones - AKG

It causes the signature to sound kind of dull in certain instances (like a Sundara) but is still a headphone I’d rather have over the 612. Treble There’s nothing inherently wrong with a signature as flat as the 612’s is, but I think most people are going to appreciate the added energy that the 702 brings to the table. The Q701 is the outlier here and clearly does have more low-end impact, sounding the least neutral out of them all because of it. To sum up, Still, one of the main reasons I use the 702 every day is because it handles everything really well and sounds fantastic to boot. Super-comfortable fully adjustable earpads are held securely in place with a soft leather headband and because the K712 PRO only weigh just over half a pound, you're sure to have an extremely comfortable experience wearing them, just remember to take them off! Key Features:It is very wide, but I really enjoy that aspect of it because I can hear everything going on. In other words, the K702 absolutely never sounds muddy or congested in any way. Secondly, the feel and comfort of them are phenomenal. I can wear them for 3+ hours and they are still as comfortable when I first put them on. The K612 is probably one of the underexposed headphones in the AKG line. The K612 is a good sounding headphone that may well best the K7** series. Comfort is quite good.
