I use the cross-hatching style if I want to darken an already shaded area. This technique is quite similar to the hatching style only that in this case, when I’m done with the hatching lines, I go over them with a similar set of parallel lines in a different direction. The cheeks are still off. Doesn't have the right tilt and slope and you notice the 'snout' of Vader is supposed to rake forward a bit more. That's one of his unique features and they couldn't capture it. Whilst I get what you mean about shadow often covering the respirator, shadow generally covers the top section, not the bottom- meaning this just looks all kinds of weird... And your edit only looks odd because:

SECOND TUTORIAL: HOW TO DRAW DARTH VADER FULL BODY Next, we will paint what we have drawn thus far. Paint the whole mask and helmet with a dark-grey blue color. This will serve you as the base color of your helmet. • STEP 10 – PAINTING THE LIGHT The whole respirator should be at an angle- and a fairly sharp angle too (hence the shadow!)... but it isn't... it's flat Are not the cheek surfaces too tall for the rest of the face? I'm not sure for certain, it's been ages since I've studied Vader's mask in any detail, but my eye goes to them every time and they just look out of place to me, as if the whole mouth grille shape has slipped down his face a bit too far.Say what you like about the studs and capturing the shape etc., but a core aspect of Vader's helmet is that reflective appearance, and by having a studded approach you lose this. Sure, I can't personally see how you achieve this at this scale... But that's why you need to increase the scale! When it comes to drawing the final line art, I recommend keeping it simple. Excessive detailing may end up complicating the final image. Draw your final line art on top of the dummy you created on the previous steps. • STEP 8 – DRAWING THE SHADOWS Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. The cape will be drawn coming from the shoulders and opening flying towards the sides of the character. The fact that the cape will be drawn this way will help us give dynamis to the character, even if the character is an static position. The bottom fins of the helmet are made from a series of wedge plates, and clip on to the main bust allowing them to be angled into position. As to be expected with a symmetrical helmet there is some repetition during this stage of the build, but it is still enjoyable nonetheless.
