About this deal

My main gripes would be that the screen is just too small for many people. My eyesight is OK so 2″ is just about acceptable, but even a 2.4″ screen would have been noticeably easier on the eyes. The device lasts about 3 hours on a charge, which is OK but shorter than we are used to. Trimui (pronounced ‘trim u.i.’, by the way) has seen a lot of success with their micro/affordable consoles, the Trimui Mini and the Trimui Smart. One of my favourite arcade games is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and this also played very well on the SMART. The fact that you can even pause and save your gameplay was great as I often find myself having small bouts of gameplay on these handhelds when sat around waiting for appointments or in a cafe. Sound quality is good, even though the console only has one small speaker to the bottom right. I was really surprised by how loud the TRIMUI Smart could be with not a great deal of distortion at top levels. Given the overall size of this handheld it’s not surprising to discover that the LCD is also tiny. Measuring just 2 inches from corner to corner, it’s the same size as the one found in the GB Micro and also the RS-90 Retromini. Unlike both of those screens though, this one has a resolution of 320×240. That resolution plays nicely with a large selection of older systems, but for GBA you’ll have to use non-integer scaling for a full width image. On larger screens this makes for blurry pixels and whilst it’s noticeable on the Model S too, the small screen size definitely helps to reduce the blurriness a bit.

Outside of the inputs, the device has a 2.4” screen, a power switch, a USB-C charging port, and a slot for an SD card where you’ll need to put your ROMs.

MinUI is a focused, custom launcher and libretro frontend for the RGB30, Trimui Smart, Miyoo Mini(s), and Anbernic RG35XX. TRIMUI has recently released the TRIMUI Smart console, which is yet another micro console to hit the retro gaming scene. Thanks to Gogamegeek for providing me with the handheld for review purposes. Notice that game cores crashing will make layer confuse for old MainUI, you have to use new v0.116 MainUI to recovery. Or use the little binary to recover in RetroArch folder. Notice the screenshot is broken when you use the layers, you can switch to SDL version. I sold my gameboy micro a long time ago and always regretted it. Now this little handheld fills the void perfectly. I’ll get something else when I want to play higher end systems but as a Genesis/SNES/GBA machine it works great for me. Reply

Use any SD flash writing tool, such as win32DiskImager, Etcher, WinImage, to burn img files into an idle SD card, thus obtaining a rescue card But based on the button configuration and the previous Trimui Smart, it would be safe to guess that we could expect that this is not gonna be a powerhouse emulation console. Does this have software or hardware shutdown? Probably a daft question, but if it had hardware shutdown it could be suitable for my youngest daughter. Support Bluetooth-compatible Headset: New generation chip, wireless Bluetooth-compatible. Support wireless Bluetooth-compatible headset to enjoy unrestricted pleasure. But with a few concept images leaked over the holidays, it would seem that Trimui aims to go a bit larger with their next few consoles.

POWKIDDY Trimui Official Smart Handheld Players 2.4Inch IPS LCD Wifi Retro Video Game Console Open Source Portable Mini Console Excellent review! Shame the original TrimUI device is difficult / expensive to get hold of now that it’s been replaced by the PowKiddy A66. Most people will compare this with the Miyoo Mini. Whilst the Miyoo was vertical, the SMART is horizontal in design. It was also a great quality product. bug fix: LCD driver for screen tearing (fix bug from Linux kernel, only support USB Factory Recovery) On SNES, I ran into those same issues along with visual glitches that seemed to have to do with transparency and layering in the game. Think of a JRPG menu causing the whole screen to get random static on it when it opens up. Annoying, for sure, but it never made things unplayable and only happened in some games.
