About this deal

He was fortunate as a teenager to have Gordon Magee as his mentor. When he moved from Ireland to the United States, Magee offered to pay for Bob’s passage to America. Bob and UCB formed a special ministry partnership, and after campaigning, the broadcasting law was changed in 1993, enabling UCB to broadcast via a satellite TV channel. In 1994, the first April-June edition of The Word for Today devotional was published, and UCB distributed 3500 copies for free. They used the devotional as a way to keep in touch with supporters and keep the cause of Christian radio in front of increasing numbers of people. In addition to his passion for his family and his calling to share God’s Word, Bob and his wife Debby shared a deep passion for the children of Romania. They first went to Romania in 1991, two years after the fall of the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. On that trip, they saw firsthand what had been named by the U.S. and world news as “The Romanian Orphan Crisis.” When you need power for service. ‘He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do … that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it’ (John 14:12-14 NKJV). And people say to me I wish God would talk to me. I look at them and saying, well, exact ly what would you like him to say? Because if He talks to you, he may not be telling you what you want to hear. So I’ve got into this kind of argument with the Lord. You might say ‘how did you know it was The Lord?’… Because I would never have told myself to do that. And the devil is called a thief, so I know he would never have told me to do it. So that just leaves the one other option. And so finally I said, okay Lord, I’ll send it at the cheque was to be sent to the widow of a minister who had died in the Oklahoma City bombing – a Spanish pastor called Gilbert Martinez, with a wife and five children, the youngest was an infant in her arms.

I believe we all have a kingdom destiny. We are each called by God to be priests and as believers, we all have access to the same anointing. The same Holy Spirit, the same presence of God rests on each of us and we need to get the message of the gospel to this culture. We live in a world where people are searching for happiness and looking for it in drugs, multiple relationships and money. People think that if they get just one more thing or make some more money, they will be happy. But that is not the answer. We have the answer and His name is Jesus Christ. I am thrilled at how God has used UCB all these years to reach homes across the UK, with His message, His hope, His gospel. But I also know there is much more to be done. I preached my first sermon when I was 13 but years later on my wedding day, we received a prophetic word which said God would use my writing to reach more people, than words spoken in the pulpit. It has been an extraordinary blessing to see how God has used the UCB Word for Today since then, to reach millions of people around the world. God continues to make himself known through the ‘power of a story’.’ In addition to his passion for his family and his calling to share God's Word, Bob and Debby shared a deep passion for the orphans of Romania. They first went to Romania in 1991, and in the last 28 years they built a transition home called The Village of Hope. Through this ministry they have rescued over 5,000 children from the streets, the sex-trade, and orphanages and placed them into loving homes.Astounded by the response in the United States, Bob offered his devotional readings to UCB in the United Kingdom. When you don’t have the answer. ‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know’ (Jeremiah 33:3). Bob preached his first sermon at 13, writing it out in a school exercise book. Until his passing in June 2019, he continued to write out each reading for The Word for Today longhand on a yellow legal pad rather than use technology.

Production of a contemporary version called Word 4U 2Day (known as Word For You Today in some countries) began in August 2003. It was developed in conjunction with The Message Trust, a Christian youth ministry based in Manchester. It is an adaption of the original devotional, geared to appeal to the younger generations in society. The first edition of The Word 4U 2Day rolled off the press in time for August 2003 with a print run of quarter of a million copies. Since then it has increased in popularity and is popular with other age groups as well. [1] (Word For You in the UK is now only available via the UCB Player app.) [2] History [ edit ] United Christian Broadcasters [ edit ] Bob’s heart was always that the readers would get deeper into the Word of God. It has never been about ‘him’ or his ministry, but about seeing lives changed with the truth of Scripture. Bob Gass - cherished author of The Word For You Today, evangelist, pastor, and teacher - died peacefully in his home on June, 5th. He was 75. When you need God’s blessing in your endeavours. ‘I will make them and the places around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing’ (Ezekiel 34:26 NKJV). Once you see the results of praying God’s promises, you will never pray any other way. Bob was born on 15 January 1944, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His father died when he was 12, and his mother was left to rear him, his brother, Neil, and sister, Ruth, on a government pension.

By the time Bob was 12, his heroes were not movie stars or sports celebrities but men and women of God. At this time, he gave his life to Christ. On my wedding day, the pastor who married us gave me a prophetic word. He said, ‘The Lord has told me that you will reach more people through your writing, than you will in all the years of your preaching.’ I wasn’t a writer, I didn’t want to write, I didn’t feel qualified, but my wife Debby wrote the prophetic word down and we did not forget it. In the early days, Bob was an itinerant preacher and also had a TV show in the US, but he did not think of himself as a writer. However, on his wedding day in 1991, he and Debby were given a prophecy and were told that Bob’s writing would reach more people than his preaching ever would. Sometime later, The Word for Today became a written reality and from a small print run of 3,500 copies initially in the UK, it now has a global reach through print and digital platforms of over 7.6 million per quarter at the end of 2018. In Australia, we send it and the partner youth edition (in print copy alone) to over 150,000 people every quarter. The Word for Today is Vision’s free daily devotional designed to give adult Christians practical teaching to keep them focused on their relationship with Jesus.
