About this deal

Upon its original release, The Fog received mixed responses from film critics. [24] Ernest Leogrande of the New York Daily News gave the film a middling two out of four-star review, praising the performances but writing that "Carpenter obviously is entranced by ghost stories, but he seems willing to sacrifice story for effect." [25] Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times similarly lauded the acting, and complimented the film as "an elegant and scary thriller of the supernatural that's far more impressive and satisfying than Carpenter's grisly and pointless (but profitable) Halloween." [26]

City Mouse: Discussed by Stevie. She says that she'll likely remain working alone at the radio station unless she can convince someone "to give up city life for Antonio Bay". Take my decision to read author Bradley Harper's A KNIFE IN THE FOG. I confess that I'd never even heard of the book until I saw a tweet from Harper himself. The content of that tweet made me curious and I got myself a copy of the book.

Everytown, America: Despite being a seaside town, what we see of Antonio Bay fits the trope. The festival even looks a bit like a 4th of July celebration. Sinister Minister: Father Malone's grandfather, who participated in the murder of the leper colony (though it should be noted he felt some remorse for it). Father Malone himself is more of a Good Shepherd. A book to read when it's bright and sunny because it's not uplifting at all but nevertheless, it is very, very good.

This was a good story that moved along at a nice, even pace. I thought Chess was an interesting character and the supporting cast was strong, too. I liked the diversity and how each of them was so unique. Chess is only 12, which supports my theory that this is most likely a middle grade novel (GR doesn't specify the age level, I initially made the assumption that this was a YA novel, but the writing is more fitting for Middle Grade crowd). Stevie's message to "look for the fog" through the radio is a reference to the final scene in The Thing from Another World, where the reporter character grabs the radio and tells the world to "watch the skies" for extra-terrestrials.Williamson, J.N., ed. (1987). Masques II: All-New Stories of Horror and the Supernatural. Baltimore: Maclay & Assoc. ISBN 978-0-940776-24-1.

Other references that are interwoven into the film include the name of the John Houseman character "Mr. Machen" (a reference to Welsh horror fantasist Arthur Machen); a radio report that mentions Arkham Reef; and the town's coroner Dr. Phibes was named after the titular character of the horror films starring Vincent Price from the early 1970s. Missing Child: Stevie realises that her son is in danger and, trapped in the radio station, there's nothing she can do except send out distress messages in the hope that someone will hear and go to help. Even by the end of the film, she still has no idea if Andy has made it to safety. The author did a great job of making very likable characters and making out loud laughable humor. The story really moved me to appreciate more of my closest family members, and friends and really taught me to not give up hope in situations. I highly recommend this book if you're into steampunk, adventure, and apocalyptic books. So imagine this house of sand and fog, a bungalow with a widow walk that looks out to the ocean; imagine a nice short jog to the beach, mornings and evenings covered in fog that protects and suffocates. Beach life is simple, yet chic. Casual, but not without its touch of elegance. With his third novel, the ghost story The Survivor, Herbert used supernatural horror rather than the science fiction horror of his first two books. In Shrine, he explored his Roman Catholic heritage with the story of an apparent miracle which turns out to be something much more sinister. Haunted, the story of a sceptical paranormal investigator taunted by malicious ghosts, began life as a screenplay [13] for the BBC, though this was not the screenplay used in the eventual film version. Its sequels were The Ghosts of Sleath and Ash. [14] Others of Herbert's books, such as Moon, Sepulchre and Portent, are structured as thrillers and include espionage and detective story elements along with the supernatural. It always amazes me how one little mistake can lead to such complete chaos. Andre Dubus III keeps adding snakes to the plot until it is all so twisted together that only the sword of Alexander the Great will untie it. Dubus reveals all the characters, even the second tier characters, with such depth that I felt like I know these people. My mind even now is still weighing all the ramifications from everyone’s decisions as if this is an ongoing crisis that is still yet to be resolved. Working a fictional story with real life people as "characters" can't be easy. You can't change any of the known facts about a person or the story won't ring true. Harper does a great job of filling in the spaces as readers get to know the young and still unsure doctor/novelist Doyle, the way before her time feminist Margaret Harkness and the eminent Doctor Bell. Plot-Triggering Book: An eerie fog rolls in from the ocean as the city of Antonio Bay prepares to celebrate its centennial. A part of the wall falls away in the church at midnight, revealing to Father Malone a diary that belonged to his late grandfather, which details a conspiracy to kill a group trying to start a leper colony nearby and steal their gold. At the climax, Father Malone learns from the journal that his grandfather, in a fit of guilt, stole the gold from his co-conspirators and buried it in the church walls so that no one would benefit from it. Iron Lady: Kathy Williams, even though she's just the chairwoman of the town committee. When she hears her husband may have been lost at sea, she still continues with her work in the celebration. Truth in Television, many people react to such situations by going about their daily routines or even burying themselves in work - it both helps give you something else to think about/focus on, and gives you the feeling that it is an ordinary, routine day. As the body hasn't been recovered, she may also be choosing to believe he's just missing (and when she confirms he's dead later on in the church as they list all the victims, it's hardly the time to start angsting about it).
