About this deal

Start by setting up your workspace. You want to have plenty of room for kids to explore paint mixing. We covered our kitchen table with our art mat and some large sheets of white paper. We placed all our materials right on the table so we were ready to go!

This color mixing activity was an absolute hit. Both Theo and Lucy have already mentioned more than once they want to do it again! I am bored! I don’t have any new books to read. I am bored! My Mom is listening to the news on the radio and they are talking about the low temperatures and the surprise winter storm that is moving in. Tom: Blue and yellow. Blue and yellow. I think it makes orange. Yep, orange. Does it actually make orange? Welove Hervé Tullet’s ‘ Press Here‘ and ‘Mix It Up’ is a lot of funtoo. It’s a greatbook to read but also provides an introduction to the three primary colours, the secondary colours that result from mixing them and shows how you can make colours lighter or darker. I got a free copy of this from Chronicle Books in my #ChronicleCrush box and didn't give it enough attention at first. I had seen it in Shelf Awareness and now here it was mixed in with a cookbook and a history book, so I had been under the assumption all along that this was some experimental creativity-boosting project for adults. I wish I had actually read it sooner instead of just flipping through!Lucy began to paint pictures. She’d mix colors on her paper plate until she got just the right one to add to her artwork! Just like the book, Press Here, kids are active participants in the story- using their imaginations along with their hands to splatter and mix colors all throughout the book. Children learn the basics of color mixing as they read this hands-on book!

This is an interestingway to mix the three primary colours. First we filled a shallow bowl with milk then dropped three drops of liquid red food colouring slightly away fromthe centre of the bowl. Then we added three drops of blue and three drops of yellow so that the colours formed a triangle. We squirted a small amount of washing up liquid in the centre of the triangleand watched what happened. (You can read aboutwhy the colours mix when you add the washing up liquid here). It was fascinating watching the colours move butit took a while for them to really mix together. The New York Times bestselling book, a brilliant companion to the mega-selling classic Press Here , is now gently compressed into a toddler-friendly board book. I think I’ll make the Southern Belle hot cocoa, topped with vanilla ice cream, and use a candy cane stirrer.” She said to herself. Just as she finished cooking, the door opened and a red-cheeked Sally came in and took off her gloves, coat, hat, scarf, and boots. “What’s that wonderful smell?” Sally said with a smile. “I hope it’s what I think it is.” All three sat and sipped the hot cocoa while Sally told them about her adventures outside.Sally giggled and said, “And I thought I was bored.” Sally was obviously bored. She moped around the apartment for a while, tried to find something to do, but there just wasn’t anything that interested her. She walked slowly to the window, pressed her nose against the cold glass, and watched the big snowflakes fall from the sky. She looked down and saw that they were already starting to cover the street and sidewalk. “Oh what a terrible day. I am so bored,” she said with a sigh. Mixing colors is one of the most classic art activities for kids and is always a hit. We were inspired by Herve Tullet’s new book, Mix It Up!, to create our own colors by mixing paints. We saved our favorite colors on our Personal Paint Palette free printable and even named the colors ourselves!

Hervé Tullet, creator of the incredible ‘Press Here’, has returned with another equally fun, uniquely interactive, straight-up UNMISSABLE book. Prepare for some colour-smushing adventures that require neither the rolling up of sleeves, nor the panic over the safety of soft furnishings. AN EDUCATIONAL GIFT: The gorgeous graphic visuals make this book an irresistible choice for gift-giving, while the educational concept is an appealing bonus.

Hi! My name is Sally and I live in New York City, in The United States of America. It’s a chilly, cloudy fall day, and the rain is turning into an icy snowy mixture. I am bored! Last week the weather was beautiful when I had to go to school, but it gets dark early now so I cannot play outside. Now, when I don’t have to go to school, there is an early winter storm brewing. I am bored! Fun book that teaches children about their colors. This activity based book asks the reader to touch, rub, and count the color spots. Children learn how colors look after they mix together in this interactive picture book. Advertisement Your Story Book! A book specially made, with you as the main hero or heroine!
