The TS-464 comes with an Intel Celeron N5095 CPU that has four cores, four threads, runs a base 2.0 GHz and can burst to 2.9 GHz. The processor has Intel UHD Graphics built in, running at 450 MHz with bursts up to 750 MHz, making it a very good candidate for use as a video streaming platform if you need to transcode your files. This is big advantage over the recently reviewed Synology DS1522+. Other than this minor hiccup, the initial installation was simple. After installing the QFinder Pro application on my desktop, the device was detected and I was given the option to go through the Smart Installation Guide to start the initial configuration. Connect the NAS to the PC directly by an Ethernet cable. If your NAS includes two LAN ports, please connect LAN 2 of the NAS to the PC. As this is a 4-Bay system, it means that you can take advantage of configurations such as RAID 0 (combine all the storage), RAID 1 (mirror the storage) RAID 5 (combine the drives and have 1 drive of redundancy/safety-net) and RAID 6 (same as RAID 5 but 2 drives of safety). It is also worth mentioning that the TS-453E NAS can be deployed with as little as a single HDD/SSD and then you can add drives one by one later (though adding to an existing RAID storage pool will depend on the actual RAID config (i.e. JBOD > RAID 1 > RAID 5). Note: Use only QNAP memory modules to maintain system performance and stability. For NAS devices with more than one memory slot, use QNAP modules with identical specifications. The review has really only touched upon the main features of QTS, but there are many more I haven't looked at, such as iSCSI targets, snapshots, and HDMI output. There are also a wide variety of apps to make the NAS device do whatever you want, from serving up music and photos, to running a full-fledged Content Management System with Joomla. Many of these features (like Joomla) probably require a much bigger box, but the point is that the only limit to a NAS is your imagination.
