About this deal

We love The Silver Spooncookbook from the 1950s – a staple in many Italian food lovers’ kitchen."— FamilyCirlcle

The society changes from the first to the third trilogy but not radically, and in this the author is successful in portrayal of how things might seem radically different superficially but are closer to where progress began, and progress being slow in steps that various people pay heftily during their lives for. You can cook anything. If you have some leftover broccoli, the Silver Spoon will tell you what to do with them. (And I can probably guess: it'll be - boil them in salt water, fry in olive oil for a bit, and put some damn delicious cheese nearby. ECCOCI QUA!) The new layout emphasizes its contemporary appeal and the colour coding of each section simplifies the process of cross-referencing ingredients and methods. A section with original menus from the 15 most famous Italian chefs of the last 50 years has been expanded to include original menus from Italian celebrity chefs working outside Italy. The Forsyte's and co are such long-term companions to me now that no book could possibly disappoint. This particular instalment focuses mainly on Michael and Fleur - the former as he embarks on his political journey and the latter as she continues to climb the social ladder. On one particular night of Fleur's socialising, words are exchanged, letters are sent, Soames makes a scene and a scandal emerges. This was my favourite part of the book, seeing the scandal unfold and watching it progress to court. Big and bountiful, it's a welcoming jumble of recipes... And by the looks of it, it may give cookbooks by American celebrity chefs a run for their money.' - New York Times MagazineA seriously comprehensive guide that shows that Italian food is about for more than just pasta and pizza... One for serious Italophiles.' - Gordon Ramsey, The Times The Silver Spoonis as delicious to look at as the recipes inside."— Scotland on Sunday Christmas Guide

The Foggartism element was really interesting, especially in relation to the state of England at the time the book was set. I have just learned that Foggartism is not an actual concept but is based on a policy where orphaned children were to Australia for a new start in life (unfortunately though, it often ended in abuse and cruelty). Big and bountiful, it’s a welcoming jumble of recipes... And by the looks of it, it may give cookbooks by American celebrity chefs a run for their money."— The New York Times Magazine Michael attempts to help various people who appeal to him in his various capacities, and has mixed results in return, some success and some not quite so much. One couple he helped before his political career began managed to stay together despite delicate problems to negotiate and even managed to migrate to a better climate in Australia, but is not as immediately well off as they thought. Another is a disaster partly, with a third doing all right.Il cucchiaio d'argento ( Italian pronunciation: [il kukˈkjaːjo darˈdʒɛnto]), or The Silver Spoon in English, is a major Italian cookbook and kitchen reference work originally published in 1950 by the design and architecture magazine Domus. It contains about 2000 recipes drawn from all over Italy, and has gone through eleven editions. This is the second novel in the second trilogy of Galsworthy's Forsythe Saga and this book serves, primarily as a set up for the final volume in the trilogy. Fleur Mont has set herself up as a stylish London hostess, holding literary and musical salons for what were known in the 1920's as the "Bright young Things." Her husband Michael, is now a member of Parliament and consumed with a theory called Fogatism that proposes to solve England's economic problems by emigration to the Dominions. Tiramisu. I've made this 10+ times, it's reliable and delicious and has a big wow factor at parties. Yo, it's easy, you just need mascarpone. Fleur Forsyte Mont is a social gadfly, but also arbiter who tends to collect the in-crowd for her burgeoning salon. An insult from one of her circle leads to a lawsuit that threatens to derail her rise in society. This emphasis on being in "the know" with "the new" contrasts with the altruistic tendencies of her husband Michael, who is trying to foment social change through his standing as a Member of Parliament.

A revised English edition was released in November 2011, with adjusted measurements, 400 new photographs, as well as a new cover, more similar to the red leather binding of the original Italian edition. [3] Time-honoured recipes that make this a one-stop reference book for traditional Italian cooking.' - House and Garden Fleur, as always, was a selfish madam and irritated me beyond words. I hope in future books we see her mature and act like the mother and wife her son and husband deserve. Soames, who I've disliked in previous books is definitely growing on me - I truly believe he is a changed man and has softened since becoming a father and growing old. Este famoso libro, publicado en 1950, se ha ido actualizando hasta nuestros días, adaptado a la cocina moderna. Es el único libro de cocina italiana que necesitaréis tener. Es enorme (+1500 páginas) y con una encuadernación preciosa. Accessible and a pleasure to read... When it comes to Italian home cooking, The Silver Spoonserves it up."— Costco Connection

I’m enjoying the continuing story of the Forsytes, although Soames is the only Forsyte in name left - the story also follows his daughter, Fleur and her husband. This book is considered something of an authority on Italian cookery and is the bestselling cookery book of all time in its native land... For lovers of Italian cuisine it contains so much to inspire and delight. Well deserving of a coveted space on the kitchen shelf."— Woman's Way (Ireland)

Without a doubt, this season's one indispensable cookbook is The Silver Spoon... Magnificent."— This Week

It’s not so much one more Italian cookbook as the one-volume encyclopedia of Italian home cookery. Lavish illustrations, a helpful glossary of cooking terms and a translation geared to the intelligent layout make The Silver Spoonboth pleasant browsing and an accessible manual in the kitchen."— The Wall Street Journal The Silver Spoon was conceived and published by Domus, the design and architectural magazine famously directed by Giò Ponti from the 1920's to the 1970's. Time-honoured recipes that make this a one-stop reference book for traditional Italian cooking."— House and Garden The most exhaustive Italian cookbook in recent memory, this volume offers something for every cook, regardless of their skill level, and deserves to be a fixture in American kitchens."— Publishers Weekly This is also the great tragedy of Italian cooking in America. It does not mix well with Big Food in America.
