About this deal

Both technologies have their fan base, with traditional lithium-ion (NMC) having better energy density and efficiency than LiFePO4. However not by much. In contrast, LiFePO4 is safer and can withstand many more charge/discharge cycles. About 6x as many (3000 vs 500) before the storage capacity has dropped to 80% of the starting amount. If you’re fully discharging charging the River 2 every single day for 8 years, it will still have 80% capacity available to you. Pretty reassuring in our opinion. Battery Capacity of the River 2

For example, you can connect it to an EcoFlow 220W Bifacial Portable Solar Panel since the solar Input of RIVER 2 is 8A Max,11-30V 110W, and the Open Circuit Voltage of EcoFlow 220W Bifacial Portable Solar Panel is 21.8V, which falls within that range. However, any extra electricity produced over 110W gives you no additional benefit. You can pair EcoFlow products over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth with the EcoFlow mobile app (available on iPhone & Android). It does everything straight from the palm of your hand. You can also upgrade to the latest firmware to enjoy the latest performance upgrades. The EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro will give you the freedom to enjoy power outlets everywhere in the home, or on your outdoorsy adventures. Charge Smarter with Clean and Renewable EnergyThis version of the EcoFlow RIVER 2 Max comes with 3-pin UK plugs. It also has 3 x USB-A outputs, 1 x USB-C output, 2 x DC5521, and 1 x Car power outlet making this a truly versatile Portable Power Station.

Once connected, the WiFi indicator will pop up on the screen as well and the app is fairly straightforward in allowing status indicators at a glance, in addition to controlling the various outputs and inputs. Not pictured in the GIF above is a time chart for charging and discharging power levels, which shows how long the various charging inputs have been on for and how efficiently at that—quite handy for solar charging should you need to see whether to move portable solar panels around to better face the sun. The connection is over WiFi, so you can theoretically monitor the power station from a good distance away, which is handily paired with pre-set alarms that will pop up as notifications. The settings menu has plenty of other options, some of which are shown here. In particular, I appreciated the ability to set the maximum charge level, which can be useful even on this LiFePO4-based battery unit that is good for 80%+ capacity after 3000 cycles compared to the Li-ion RIVER Pro, which only had this 80% rating for the first 800 cycles. As such, you can be rest assured about using the RIVER 2 daily for years at a time, and this is also why EcoFlow has increased the warranty period to five years on the RIVER 2 lineup from the two years previously offered. You can also select the maximum charging levels in each mode, limit the output as deemed necessary, and have firmware updates done to the unit that can add more features or resolve any bugs typically seen early in the product life cycle. This app removes the need for an onboard menu with touch screen or navigation buttons, keeping the unit physically smaller and providing more customization, control, and monitoring—a very useful selling point in itself. The inverter on board has a 300W nominal capability, and the ability to surge at up to twice that (600W). Surging means using more power on a very short term basis of a few seconds. This is to turn on devices which require a high peak power at startup. It has excellent charge speed compared with the competition (around 5x faster on mains input), a great display which accurately shows time remaining and percentage capacity remaining. We like the USB-C charging as well as the general ergonomics such as the colour and carry handle.

There is only one colour scheme available – dark grey for the main body of the River 2, and a lighter silver grey for the top face and edges, including the handle. It certainly looks stylish, and fits in well with the rest of the range ( for example the Delta 2 – see our review here). If the ambient temperature increases beyond this range during storage, the battery discharge rate will also increase. Is RIVER 2 a True Sine Wave Output Device? If any of your devices have a higher starting wattage, you’ll also need to factor that in. RIVER 2 provides up to 600W starting watts (surge power) using X-Boost mode. Can You Run RIVER 2 and Charge It at the Same Time? Yes, the River 2 does allow power to be drawn out of it whilst it’s charging. This means it can be used as a quasi ‘ uninterrupted power supply‘ or UPS. However, if you’re powering something like a lightbulb at 60 running watts, you could get over 4 hours of power.

However, you can use two RIVER 2s simultaneously but separately. For example, use one to power your lighting while the other powers your box fan. What does this mean? If your house or caravan is running on mains electricity, you can use larger EcoFlow devices like the Delta 2 attached to the mains distribution board via a switch – when the mains drops out, the switch will automatically move you onto battery power. The RIVER 2 series is the first-ever collection of portable power stations to be TÜV Rheinland certified, meaning their safety, durability, and quality is evaluated by independent experts and found to be beyond reproach. However, a laptop (for example) will be unaffected by the 30ms switchover as it has its own battery. Can the RIVER 2 Handle High-Wattage Appliances?Bear in mind that you won’t get the headline storage of 256Wh, but this is the same with all power stations – the manufacturers like to quote headline numbers which are unattainable in the real world (same goes for electric car manufacturers!).
