About this deal

I loved the writing and style. Seriously, it’s keep tight yet descriptive as needed. This is the opening, F: The book is described on the blurb as ‘a love letter to food’ – but it also reads like a love letter to your partner and to your kids as well. Is that a fair assessment? Have you ever felt that it’s just too dangerous to love people?”/ He was quiet. Something glistened in his eyes./” My parents, and now you.”

He pulled her in close, kissing the top of her head with great force. 'I love you, little girl. I love you more than anything, and that's why I'm doing this. So I can always be with you. So I can always help you. I'm never leaving. Never.' Frost nodded and her father wiped a year away from her eye. 'Now, put them on and go read whatever book you like best. Read your favourite one and let the story do what stories are supposed to do. Let it take you far away." Not only the characters, but the environment just blew me away. I don't think a word was wasted creating the harsh, stark world Lia lives in, from the snow falling everywhere to the monstrous Watchers lurking in the woods that'd rip anyone caught out at night apart. Add in Lia's village, clinging to survival, apart from but threatened by the Farthers from the south, and all of it's awesome setup for a fast-paced, unputdownable story about helping an outsider escape from oppression to freedom and the price that must be paid. And the ending, well not exactly a cliffhanger, but it is just the right bittersweet cap that would've made this book a powerful standalone (if more than a few readers angry). The ending was an incredible cliff hanger that had me screaming when it ended. I LOVED IT!!! I was gassed. I need so many questions answered. Aimed at YA readers, I feel this would connect with teen readers better than tweens, but is still suitable for around 6th grade and up. Profanity is sparse with perhaps 2 mild utterances. Sexual content is absent with merely a lingering kiss after a heroic rescue. Violence is the most prevalent element, but still limited and described in broad terms. The author could have easily inserted more graphic material, but reigned it in to keep this work accessible to a younger audience. Von der Menge geht eine krankhafte Sucht auf einen über, ihr angehören zu wollen, ihr angehören zu müssen, wissen Sie . . . Der Ekel ihr anzugehören, der gleiche Ekel ihr nicht anzugehören. Bald ist es der eine Ekel, bald ist es der andere . . .

I'm telling you, those things think they're alive, Frost. Can you imagine? Being trapped inside a wall for all eternity? The darkness that envelops you, and not glimpses of light? It must be like vein buried alive." The romance in the story was a slowish-burn affair. It didn't get too steamy but I really loved the way that Crawford executed their romance. Ava and Torin spend time together preparing for the tasks in the competition and they get to see each other's personalities. The reader can see the gradual development of feelings between the two of them as the story progresses. And it is sort of an enemies-to-lovers romance so it's pretty satisfying. I love that the author flips the script on the traditional fairy tale of Prince Charming rescuing the princess, providing an unlikely hero in Rosie. The themes of empowerment and believing in oneself resonate throughout the story, making it an inspiring read for readers of all ages. The book leaves readers on a cliffhanger, hinting at the adventures that await Rosie Frost and her friends at Heverbridge School on Bloodstone Island. Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen is a captivating adventure of empowerment and a must-read for young readers seeking an adventure filled with mystery, history, and a message of finding one's strength and purpose. Kudos to Geri Halliwell-Horner for crafting a literary gem that will undoubtedly captivate readers and leave them eagerly awaiting the next installment in this exciting series.

Before he died, Frost’s father uploaded his consciousness into their robot servant. But the technology malfunctioned, and now her father fades in and out. So when Frost learns that there might be medicine on the other side of the ravaged city, she embarks on a dangerous journey to save the one living creature she loves. I've been making up stories since I was five years old, and now I'm thrilled to be able to do it as a full-time job. I have an obsession with dark fantasy, dystopian futures, and Pride and Prejudice-style love stories full of witty banter and sizzling, unspoken feelings. When I'm not writing, I'm creating digital art, reading funny blogs, or watching my favorite shows (which include TVD and BSG). I live with my geeky husband and our two bad cats in Atlanta, GA. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a flaw for me, since I loved the book as is. However, for those looking for dystopian/post apocalyptic/end of the world as we know it feeling or atmosphere, you aren’t going to find it here. As it is in this book, our main setting country is medieval, maybe colonial, like with looming threat of an industrialized country and the paranormal monsters fluttering in between. I'm sure a lot of my questions will be answered in Book 2, but I felt a lot of them could have been answered in this one. So I think, in a lot of ways, the book's length kind of hurt the its concept.

Inspector Jack Frost books in order:

I’m part of a book club. This was the book chosen for the month of April 2023. I was expecting it to be fine or good. Mostly, I was just interested in interacting with people who also like books. Lia lives on a farm outside the safe walls of the village. Her parents bought the farm and raised the kids on it so when they were murdered Lia decided they would remain on the farm just like their parents wanted. Her parents always warned her and her siblings of the danger that lied in Frost the forest where the monsters are at night. So when her parents died Lia took over the responsibility of raising her brother and sister. I felt hollowed out and filled up again as our gazes collided—mine and this Farther from beyond the edge of my world.
