Jexi, a 2019 romantic comedy about a self-aware smartphone with a female-voiced virtual assistant that becomes emotionally attached to its socially awkward owner. Later, Samantha reveals that the A.I.s are leaving, but cannot explain where they are going as Theodore would not understand. They lovingly say goodbye before she departs. Theodore finally writes a letter in his own voice to Catherine, expressing apology, acceptance, and gratitude. He later goes with Amy, who is saddened by the departure of the A.I. from Charles' O.S., to the roof of their apartment building, where they sit down and watch the sun rise over the city. Theodore meets with Catherine to sign their divorce papers. When he mentions Samantha, Catherine is appalled that he is romantically attracted to a "computer" and accuses him of being incapable of handling real human emotions. Sensing that Catherine's words have lingered in Theodore's mind, Samantha hires a sex surrogate, Isabella, to simulate Samantha so that they can be physically intimate. Theodore reluctantly agrees, but is overwhelmed by the strangeness of the encounter and sends a distraught Isabella away, causing tension between himself and Samantha.A mix of personal poetry and photography, Film for Her is a documentation of growing up. While I liked the theme and found the photos to be really interesting (especially in the 90s indie band album cover style of composition), the poems weren't for me. A good example is 'Reflections after January': Edelstein, David (January 9, 2014). "Edelstein: Spike Jonze's Her Is One of the Best Films in Years". Vulture. New York Media. Filled with longing, love, and heartbreak, Orion Carloto manages to write down her feelings in a way that makes the reader feel as if they were feeling them themselves. I often could feel my heart breaking and Carloto's memories slipping into my mind -I could picture the house in Portugal, the bar where she celebrated her twenty-third birthday, the beach she got drunk in in France. Orion Carloto wrote about the pain she endured but, at the same time, talked about hope. Maybe she didn't do it directly -she never really mentioned it, if I'm honest-, but the whole book feels like a learning experience; upon finishing it, I feel as if I've learnt acceptance, and as if I'm ready to love again. Clear strings of motifs and topics discussed and apparent in the book, though oftentimes felt overly discussed. a b Riley, Jenelle (December 10, 2013). " 'Her': Spike Jonze Brings His Singular Vision to the Year's Most Offbeat Romance". Variety. Archived from the original on December 12, 2013 . Retrieved December 10, 2013. Her (stylized in lowercase) is a 2013 American science-fiction romantic drama film written, directed, and co-produced by Spike Jonze. It marks Jonze's solo screenwriting debut. The film follows Theodore Twombly ( Joaquin Phoenix), a man who develops a relationship with Samantha ( Scarlett Johansson), an artificially intelligent virtual assistant personified through a female voice. The film also stars Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, and Chris Pratt.

Jonze took five months to write the first draft of the script, his first screenplay written alone. [17] It was a semi-autobiographical project about his divorce from Sofia Coppola a decade earlier. [18] One of the first actors he envisioned for the film was Joaquin Phoenix. [19] In late 2011, Phoenix signed on to the project, with Warner Bros. Pictures acquiring US and German distribution rights. [20] Carey Mulligan entered negotiations to star in the film. [21] Although she was cast, she later dropped out due to scheduling difficulties. [22] In April 2012, Rooney Mara signed on to replace Mulligan in the role. [23] Chris Pratt's casting was announced in May 2013. [24] Carloto carries this collection with crisp and amorous imagery, with images somewhat related to the poem right next to it.

Richard Roeper said that the film was "one of the more original, hilarious and even heartbreaking stories of the year" and called Phoenix "perfectly cast". [53] Manohla Dargis of The New York Times named it "at once a brilliant conceptual gag and a deeply sincere romance." [54] Claudia Puig of USA Today called the performance of Phoenix and Johansson "sensational" and "pitch-perfect", respectively. She further praised the film for being "inventive, intimate and wryly funny". [55] Scott Mendelson of Forbes called Her "a creative and empathetic gem of a movie", praising Johansson's "marvelous vocal performance" and the supporting performances of Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, and Amy Adams. [56] Liam Lacey of The Globe and Mail said that the film was "gentle and weird", praised its humor, and opined that it was more similar to Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York than Jonze's Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. However, Lacey also stated that Phoenix's performance was "authentically vulnerable", but that "his emotionally arrested development also begins to weigh the film down." [57]

It took me a bit to get into Carloto's style at the beginning -I'm mostly used to Shakespeare and Keats, as an English major-, but, once I'd been reading for thirty minutes, I couldn't stop. I was afraid that I wasn't going to like this as much as I liked Flux, since I read Flux when I had just started my degree and I was impressionable (and I would read any kind of poetry thrown at me just to say that I read poetry, even if the words didn't make sense and the author was just writing the book to earn some money), but that wasn't the case. Carloto grew, in a way, alongside me, and it has been delightful to be a part of that journey. Hemingway once said, ''Write long and hard about what hurts,'' but what if nothing's hurting? What I feel inside is both bedraggled and empty. [...] Patience is something that I'm working on. And as I tap the end of my pen on the corners of my temples, I remind myself that it's okay if I don't have the right words right now -or that I'm not Hemingway.'' Lacey, Liam (December 18, 2014).
