The good news is that you can remove fleas with a vacuum cleaner, which is something you probably already have in the cleaning closet. If your pet goes outside, consider getting a flea collar to help prevent them bringing fleas into the house. I have published a book, worked with many pest control companies, and helped thousands with various infestations on a one-to-one basis. Lastly, as a bonus, you can put a few drops of essential oils into the room every few days to proactively keep fleas away.

Also, keep a lookout for flea excrement (dark red specks) and eggs (white oval shapes the size of salt crystals) in your pet’s fur. Pay particular attention to wall/floor crevices where insects harbour, and the area where insect activity is seen most. The only criticism I have got is:- the hole you are supposed to puff it out of is too small, useless and hard work. Step 3: If the trap didn’t catch anything (you can put one in each room), this pretty much confirms that there are no adult fleas in your carpets. Wash your bedding, upholstery, and pet’s bedding with hot water and detergent in the washing machine to kill the fleas. However, from my personal experience, I rarely have to do it again if I leave it I follow these exact steps.

You may have noticed that I left out borax from the ingredients, and this is due to the slight chance of a young child eating it. To kill them in your carpets, you can use natural products such as Diatomaceous Earth, baking soda, borax powder (not boric acid) and table salt. However, the trade-off is that you are using ingredients that can pose a potential risk to your health (and your pets), and while it is nice to stop their eggs from hatching, you can get rid of all stages of fleas using the natural products listed above. However, in my experience, natural options work just as well, and the little extra time and effort is worth avoiding the insecticides (in most cases). The shake and vac formulation absorbs pet odours and is easily vacuumed away, leaving your home pleasantly fragranced and flea-free. Borax powder: This is often used to remove stubborn stains on fabrics, and is another great option for DIY flea control. However, it is possible that there are eggs, larvae and pupa, and since they are so small, it can be very difficult to find them.

A local favorite, this deodorizing carpet powder offers a combination of powerful natural ingredients which help to repel fleas and ticks while leaving a fresh herbal fragrance, with no harsh chemicals. Step 2: To distribute the powder around the rooms, you can use a homemade shaker by taking a large plastic tub, and punching little holes in the lid (ice cream containers work well, just make sure you fasten the lid on with some tape).

For a more comprehensive treatment, we would recommend use in conjunction with our Pest Expert Formula 'C' Flea Spray and Formula 'P' Flea Bombs to fumigate the room.
