I found that it was very relevant to today’s social struggles in Texas despite being published in 1998 and set in the 70’s. This gothic story merges horror and a lovely queer romance with a helping of the fantastical in what is ultimately a story about grieving, secrets, and belonging. I related to Marin so much, and it made it really easy for me to become deeply invested in the story from the very beginning.Some of my favourite things are books that make me cry, overflowing bookshelves, walking in the woods, when my feet are in the ocean, a cat asleep on my lap or a baby asleep on my shoulder, and little creatures like snails and frogs and especially spiders. The more Marin entwines herself in the Lovelace-Hallowell family, particularly Evie, the more she learns the true meaning of what Wren told her: “Everything stays at Lovelace, down to the bone. Hovering over the entire family is the spectre of the recent death of Charles Hallowell, father and husband and anchor to normality. The mystery of Evie’s family was woven nicely in and I was genuinely shocked by some of the twists near the end.

Captivating setting, interesting characters and relationship between them, intense mystery that revealed itself.Marin, Evie, Wren, Thea, and Neera were wonderful characters and I found myself attaching to Marin pretty quickly.

Tl;dr: The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), Pushing Daisies (2007), Frozen (2013), Crimson Peak (2015), Frozen 2 (2019), and Casper (1995) did all of this better.

Despite its May release date I think a hot cup of tea, wood wick candle and dark clouds outside is just what is needed before stepping foot into the Lovelace estate and all the fun it has to offer. Am not sure about all the negative things said about this seller by other people,,, because my experience was completely different, totally positive.
