About this deal

He wrote three books for children, including the acclaimed MRS FRISBY AND THE RATS OF NIMH which won the prestigious Newbery Medal. For me, the narrator makes all of the difference for an audiobook, and Barbara did a great job with this book! The entire book's tone is one of being invited into a secret that only you, the reader, are accepted into.

Frisby and the Rats of NIMH has received widespread praise from scholars, critics of children's literature, and children themselves. Calhoun on mouse and rat population dynamics at the National Institute of Mental Health from the 1940s to the 1960s.To fool the exterminators, the rats get rid of all their human-like technology and make their tunnels under the rosebush look like a normal rats' nest. In a retrospective essay about the Newbery Medal-winning books from 1966 to 1975, children's author John Rowe Townsend wrote: "It seems to me that the fact that all the animals talk and behave intelligently from the beginning of the story detracts from the spectacular development of the laboratory rats.

She is just a regular mouse but her love is her strength and I was surprisingly very moved by her adventures. After Mrs Frisby saves a young crow from being attacked by the farm cat, and he hears her problem, he suggests that she ask for wisdom from the wise Owl, who suggests she ask for help from the Rats. For me the whole story is entertaining whilst being an insight into an aspect of life that we, as humans, seem to have forgotten. In 2015, MGM, which had released the 1982 film, acquired the rights to the book to adapt it into a live-action/animated film. In R-T, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH (1990), the rats rescue two lost human children who in turn help to save the colony before winter. Then, having had the book lying around our flat recently, my dad picked it up one visit and started reading . It helps that I am a devoted rat-dad, but I'd recommend it even for those who still harbor prejudices against these noble creatures.

Connolly noted the book for Conly's "gradations of moral understanding and culpability" while dealing with "such problematic issues as the roles of science and technology, identity, idealism, family life, forms of community and means of survival". Surprisingly thoughtful book about education, ethics, community and obligations to ourselves, our family, our tribe, and the larger world. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH "reflect the many scientific and technological anxieties present in 1960s American culture". As an adult I appreciate the fact that the book is about a parent that is sacrificing to save her children instead of the standard children’s book that is about children needing to take care of themselves because the adults around them are unable to protect them. Frisby, a housewife mouse with no special enhancements from NIMH of her own, shows amazing courage, strength, and composure.

Frisby, a widowed field mouse who seeks to protect her children and home from destruction by a farmer's plow. Between 1989 and 1990, I took some additional college courses in hopes of getting a teaching certificate. If it was in grade 6, I was 11 years-old; sensitive enough to have compassion for sad elements and still a baby to be spooked by dark moments. It is descriptive enough that you can easily picture where everything is happening without being overly descriptive. His haunting young adult novel Z FOR ZACHARIAH was completed posthumously by his wife, Sally, and daughter, Jane, using the author's notes.Frisby just happens to hear the humans talking about drastic things they were going to do and when they were going to do them. The rats of NIMH come up with a brilliant solution to Mrs Frisby's problem and she, in turn, renders them a great service, but the rats are in danger too, and little by little Mrs Frisby discovers their extraordinary past . Normally, the family would move to their summer home to avoid being uprooted, but Timothy is too ill to move. His last book, Z is for Zachariah was nearly completed at the time of his death; the last few chapters were written from notes by this wife and one of his daughters.
