About this deal

Their first two albums, To Mega Therion and Into The Pandemonium, are widely considered classics of the period and genre, and have proven very influential. What you are referring to is… there’s some rehearsal recordings from the time when we wrote and rehearsed Morbid Tales before we went into the studio to actually record it in the summer of 1984. Into The Pandemonium” was the last recording made by this era of CELTIC FROST, bringing to an end a period of incredible creative and artistic growth over what was a remarkably brief period of time. While the recordings are rough, they’re very easy to listen to and surprisingly better quality than I would have expected for what amounts to a microphone in a rehearsal studio.

It should simply be a few people who played as friends in a very unusual band, paying homage to probably one of the most important members of this band, Martin Erich Ain. Danse Macabre" captures the radical ambition and evolution of CELTIC FROST from 1984 through to 1987.t almost seems churlish to regard Celtic Frost as one of the great extreme metal bands, because they were so much more than that. They have all the rights, but as usual with BMG they contacted me and they said do you want to be involved, we would love to have you on board. Using the term modernism to refer to music that is modern in character, quality of thought, expression or technique might at first seem like an odd thing to tag onto a musical movement which is often characterised in the popular consciousness by songs about dragons and men who look, and sound, like the Romantic ideal of Vikings.

Featuring the first recording of the essential "Circle Of The Tyrants", the EP is a solid snapshot of the sheer fanaticism that was the lifeblood of Tom and Martin in particular.

One ingrained narrative of the modernist 1980s is that music slumped midway through the decade, with all of the creative verve that powered post punk sedated until acid house culture livened things up once again. They were still an active entity when I was in my formative metal years, but just one of the many bands I didn’t pursue. I bought this expecting some thing new but apart from the nice packaging box patch booklet and badge. It covers their Noise Records output from 1984’s ‘Morbid Tales’ to 1987’s ‘Into The Pandemonium’, charting an unpredictable course that saw them take in radical stylistic changes from avant-garde extreme metal to thrash metal and doom metal.

A 12″ x 12″, 40-page book, brings together photography — some previously unseen — from the era and brand new interviews with Tom Gabriel Warrior and Reed St Mark. It, and CELTIC FROST's previous releases, increasingly received critical acclaim, which emboldened the band to take more risks, to push the boundaries of heavy music even further with their next album. The release encompasses Celtic Frost’s early material from 1984 to 1987 and includes the band’s classic albums alongside a handful of rarities and goodies.Dethroned Emperor” and “Morbid Tales” are surrounded by a handful of other material and it seems that the songs were recorded at different times. The rapidfire rate of creativity during this period perhaps reflects that Fischer understood that, in creative terms, once a vein of ore is located, it must be mined with speed and precision before a rockfall obscures it forever. Despite, or maybe because of, constant turmoil on so many fronts, Celtic Frost achieved an artistic level few others would even have dared to dream of aspiring towards. There was this tiny little label from Germany who specialized in cassette boxes and cassette releases, and they asked if they could use the material from these reissues in 2017 and make a cassette box. The Sign of the Usurper came about because I collaborated with BMG once again in 2017 for the reissue of the original Celtic Frost albums, which was also a very pleasant and professional experience.

My friend Calum Harvie from the UK made brand new interviews about that particular period of Celtic Frost with me and Reed St.The closest I’ve come to them is seeing Triptykon live a few years ago, which is essentially seeing one member playing in a different band. S., "Danse Macabre" brings together the band's recordings from those years, capturing their boundary-pushing ambition and creative zeal.
