Description

This bright gin only needs a small splash of tonic, around 1 part gin to 1 part tonic with a sprig of rosemary or a citrus twist. We'll send them to be recycled and you'll save paper, carbon emissions and time at the recycling centre! Primarily whisky makers, Holyrood Distillery created Height of Arrows Gin with the simplicity of whisky in mind, where they work with just barley, water and yeast. On the nose, a balance of clean fresh pine and resin coupled with light citrus with orange zest and lemon on the palate.

Personally I am not a gin drinker, however I am an enthusiastic and attentive host and we had a birthday party at our home yesterday with over 40 adult guests for me to try these two products out on, side by side. This same mind set has been applied to Height of Arrows, a gin that showcases juniper as its singular botanical, enhanced with two modifiers, salt and beeswax.Nose: Heavy has a warmer feel to it, with more spice notes and subtle florals, supporting the juniper.

They believe in stripping back gin to its core essential, juniper, and only focusing on a select few botanicals. We use salt as a natural flavour enhancer, marrying with juniper to impart a further depth of flavour. Height of Arrows invites gin fans to explore a new direction in modern gin making; one that elevates today's gin drinking experience. Either the day before or morning of the distillation, the three botanicals are added to the pot and macerated in 60% GNS.

Holyrood is the first whisky distillery in the city of Edinburgh for almost 100 years, following the closure of Edinburgh (which was also known as Glen Sciennes or Newington) distillery in 1925. Both have an impact on the gin but do not add additional flavour, unlike botanicals that are used to impart flavour in gin. Height of Arrows represents a new drinking experience for the everyday gin drinker and gin connoisseur alike. If you can justify the cost get a bottle of the "Bright" as well because they really are very different and elicit a variety of different reactions when enjoyed side by side which gave our party a fun focus point! In doing so the flavour profile, distinctive texture and mouth feel of Height of Arrows is evocative of a whisky drinking experience, which will appeal to more discerning audiences as well as the current crop of gin drinkers. Through a continuous process of experimentation and exploration, they’ve hit upon a game changer — a gin that will make waves in a saturated sector and help build a foundation for Holyrood now and in the future.

Much like roasting spices before cooking a curry, roasitng the juniper releases the heavy oils within the juniper to create a deep, bold and earthy style of Height of Arrows. This Bright expression is multi-shot, which is a gin distilling technique that concentrates botanical flavour. The florals on the nose carry through to the palate, with herbaceous notes on the finish and an enduring spice. The resulting juniper forward gin is incredibly complex while remaining beautifully smooth to drink. Drawing on the idea that whisky’s myriad of flavours rely on a handful of ingredients, Height Of Arrows rejects the idea of numerous botanical additions. This translates to “height of arrows” as it was believed this was as high an archer could shoot an arrow.
