Glyndŵr's letter requested maintained military support from the French to fend off the English in Wales. Owain Glyndŵr Day is held annually on 16 September in Wales, as a celebration of Owain Glyndŵr, the last native Prince of Wales and founder of the first Welsh parliament. The day's event includes a procession and wreath-laying ceremony and later a service held at the local church. It is said that Glyndwr was cornered at Harlech Castle in 1409, only escaping by disguising himself as an elderly man.

The rebellion had to a large extent ruined the fragile but comfortable coexistence the English and Welsh had arrived at. In 1404 he created the first Welsh Parliament in Machynlleth to rule an independent nation, and it was then he was proclaimed the Prince of Wales.In William Shakespeare's play Henry IV, Part 1 he appears as the character Owen Glendower as a king rather than a prince.
