About this deal

Fat Gripz are barbell attachments that increase the grip diameter, essentially turning any solid bar into an axle bar. Through the years I have learned that working out is a period of adjusting to your body, ailments, age and your physical limitations. I haven’t tried it, but the polyethylene foam in pool noodles is not nearly as dense or hard as these and I suspect it would quickly deform or tear under hard use.

A big limiting factor in CrossFit is your grip strength affecting everything from olympic lifts to pull-ups - do as much axle bar or FatGripz work as possible to fix this. They made holding on extremely difficult during chin ups so I wouldn’t recommend using them for chin ups or pull ups regularly, but they would be great for static hangs for grip on a chin up bar. You temporarily accept your overall poundages may regress, but you come back with superior grip strength which can only lead to greater poundages in the future. As I am a sucker for experiments, maybe I should run a full 4 week block of using these on all upper body movements/lifts?Fat Gripz are made from a high density military grade compound a lot like rubber that can be pulled open and will then snap back and clamp itself round the bar.

I forgot to mention that a hang clean, reverse curl and or curl movement are harder with an axel bar. Therefore it is non-specific relative to grip sport, and of debatable specificity for any other sport. I designed the pushing bars on my UXS bodyweight multi exercise station with a two-inch diameter for this reason. My shrug bar has one inch diameter grips which I have taped up to 1-1/8, which really bothers my hands during the last few reps (I find 1-1/4 to 1-3/8 inch diameter bars and handles much better for pulling movements). They’re made from tough rubber-like material and they sleeve either a barbell, pull up bar or even dumbbells. Made to accompany you on any arm day adventure, the durable Fat Gripz can be taken to any gym to create thick bar training without purchasing all new equipment. While a thicker bar or handle is more challenging to grip when pulling it is not much harder to hold when performing wrist curls and extensions with the forearms angled up slightly since the fingers or thumbs are working directly against gravity or the pull of the cable over most of the range of motion.

Perfect for home gyms or public gyms, the easy to use, portable, and highly durable Fat Gripz are the best way to build arm muscle fast. It would be interesting to see whether using the grips on a barbell deadlift would lead to bigger gains in the same lift without the grips.

I’m glad I did because they turned out to be a great tool with a variety of uses and after using them on several exercises over the past two weeks I’m impressed. The second time I performed that workout I did chin ups first which made gripping easier on them but much harder on deadlifts. There is no doubt in my mind that anybody using these grips faithfully will make some excellent gains in all their lifts.

As most reviewers have said, you'll have to leave your ego at the door as you'll be able to move less weight than you normally would. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. They are, quite possibly, the cheapest and most useful thing you could possibly add to your gym bag. I was worried that they would be as spongy as they appear and rather than the feel of a firm surface like a barbell, they would feel like a wet pool noodle.
