That said, if you simply want to get the job done and you’re not fussed about stripes, ignore this criticism. For me, the engine started first time however, if it doesn’t press the primer button a few more times and try again. All possible cutting modes are provided for, with a collection bag and mulch plug both included as standard. You can also of course opt for discharge mode instead by removing both items completely. The grass bag itself is massive 60 litres, the perfect accompaniment to the 51 cm cutting length. This will enable to work fast and with minimal interruption. After spending several weeks with the Mountfield SP53, I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. OK, it doesn’t create that striped finish that many lawnsmiths strive for. That said, a lawn doesn’t need stripes to look beautifully manicured. That power is supplied by a Honda GCVx145 engine; a pro-grade air-cooled four-stroke unit with an OHV formation for emission compliance, vibration- and noise-reduction, and improved fuel-economy. It would also be nice to have some speed control. You have either a choice of idle or full steam ahead with nothing in between. It’s not a major issue and it’s not like it pulls you along. It would just be nice to have that bit extra control over the speed. It doesn’t have a rear roller so if a striped finish is important to you, you might want to choose another model. Self-propelled with power to the rear wheels, there is no need to push, making this an ideal mower for maintaining your lawn with minimal effort, especially if it has slopes. Powered by an industry leading 145cc Honda OHV Autochoke engine, it has a 51cm cutting width and 6 cutting heights ranging from 22-80mm. It is also fitted with a cone clutch transmission (DSC) for smooth acceleration. The SP51H has a deep drawn pressed steel chassis giving superior strength and collecting ability. Assembling this mower is pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, the instruction manual does a pretty poor job of explaining how to do it.
