It worked really well in a Tropical Fizz, a pineapple based cocktail and brought a hint of the exotic to the cold north of England! I normally like to try my first taste of a gin, with an unflavoured light tonic water which enables me to taste the full flavour of the gin and this Amarula tasting was no exception. The fruit is hand picked and the locals then wash destone, pulp and cool the fruit before it is distilled into marula fruit spirit. With a light, sweet orange flourish and spicy backbone – this refreshing, uniquely African gin is made for savouring and sharing. The marula fruit grows in South Africa and is a favourite of the elephant herds who drawn by the scent of the ripe fruit, gather beneath the trees.

There is just one place on earth where the Marula trees grow – across Africa’s subequatorial plains. This complex, yet delicate spirit is then distilled with botanicals – gentle juniper notes and subtle orange blossom perfectly complement the exotic marula fruit, resulting in a balanced, refreshing gin.

We celebrate the luscious aroma and flavour of the marula fruit in a truly free spirit that is a fitting tribute to our African heritage. This sophisticated and gentle spirit has been produced using a mix of botanicals, including mild juniper notes and subtle orange blossom. The amarula tree, indigenous to the southern latidues of sub-equitorial Africa and known by the locals as the elephant tree as it is flavoured by the elephants for its fruit. A bottle of Amarula gin makes a perfect Christmas gift for your loved one this year, I highly recommend it and would certainly be happy if someone brought me a bottle!

The pure flavour, with a hint of floral and citrus tones came through first, followed by a bit of a kick which was unexpected but quite pleasant.Made with a base of marula fruit spirit, along with a whole herd of botanicals, including grains of paradise and orange blossom, which are steeped in the spirit before being distilled, it's superb splashed into quality tonic. An intriguing gin from Amarula, a brand more familiar to most folk as the home of a fruity South African cream liqueur made with the Marula fruit - also known colloquially as elephant fruit, which is why it has the elephant on the label.

Premium botanicals (juniper berries, orange peel and blossom, and Ghanaian grains of paradise) are added and steeped for 24 hours in the spirit and later gently distilled in a pot still. The Amarula Trust was originally set up to safeguard the African elephant – vital to the marula fruit harvest – and preserve the legacy of its local communities. It took many years to perfect the combination of botanicals and marula fruit spirit that resulted in this premium, complex and utterly unique gin, which celebrates the exotic flavours of the indigenous marula fruit. Distilled with a base of marula fruit spirit and a collection of carefully curated botanicals including grains of paradise and orange blossom, this spirit is perfect paired with premium tonic. This expression was created with a base of marula fruit spirit alongisde plenty of botanicals, creating a tipple that we simply cannot get enough of. Premium botanicals – juniper berries, orange peel and blossom, and Ghanaian grains of paradise – are steeped for 24 hours in the complex, yet delicate marula spirit and later gently distilled in a pot still. Perfect for any occasion, Amarula Gin is sure to inspire strong emotions and create memorable moments.
