Description

Enterosgel is CE certified medical device that is composed of an organic mineral and water (70% Polymethylsiloxane polyhydrate and 30% Purified water). Enterosgel does not contain substances that can cause allergic or toxic reactions. It is free from preservatives, gluten, dairy, sugar, flavours or colouring. Enterosgel does not contain any active pharmaceutical ingredients and can be used alongside other treatments. It is recommended to take Enterosgel 2 hours before or after taking other medications. However, do not take Enterosgel if you are currently taking modified-released orally administrated medications. Mix a dose of Enterosgel (a teaspoon or a table spoon depending on the age and indication) in a glass of water and take 2 hours before or after a meal or taking medications. patients aged 16 to 75 years with IBS-D recorded their IBS-D symptoms in an electronic diary and in questionnaires. Enterosgel can be taken in the longer term. Enterosgel can be taken for 21 days continuously followed by a short break for 1-2 days.

How were patients involved in the study design: Patients were involved at all stages of the study. They helped in the following: In children, treatment of diarrhoea must be accompanied by the early administration of the oral rehydration solution (ORS) to avoid dehydration. ENTEROSGEL passes through the gut, binding to bacterial toxins, immune chemicals and other harmful substances which can cause your symptoms, expelling them from the body via the stool.

Further clinical studies with Enterosgel are planned, for similar medical conditions that cause people to have long-term (chronic) diarrhoea. These include bile acid malabsorption and pelvic radiation disease. A study in children under 5 years with short-term (acute) diarrhoea will soon begin in The Gambia. Randomised, double-blind, placebo controlled multi-centre study to assess the efficacy, tolerability and safety of Enterosgel® in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhoea (IBS-D) in adults Our primary outcome analysis used multiple imputation for missing diary entries for both stool consistency and abdominal pain. Although this method has been widely adopted to handle missing data 35 it can introduce bias, but it is reassuring that the resulting ORs were comparable to the observed data. The study was overseen by the Chief Investigator Professor Yan Yiannakou, Consultant Neurogastroenterologist from County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, and Director of the NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre: Newcastle. The study tested the adsorption of bacterial toxins released from Clostridium difficile, Shigella and E.coli, which can cause inflammation and damage to the mucosal cells lining the colon resulting in diarrhoea.

Enterosgel in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Enterosgel in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with

Enterosgel is currently indicated for the treatment of acute diarrhoea and medically diagnosed IBS-diarrhoea. We recommend that you speak to your doctor before taking Enterosgel for the treatment of other types of chronic diarrhoea or other medical conditions. This study aims to recruit 430 adult participants with IBS-D, from approximately 30 medical practices and outpatient clinics in the UK. The goal is to investigate whether Enterosgel® can improve IBS-D symptoms, including diarrhoea and abdominal pain, and is well-tolerated. The study will also investigate the impact of Enterosgel® on the quality of life, work productivity and activity and general health, and evaluate whether Enterosgel® has long-term effects. The study will involve four visits and one phone call over 26 weeks. During the study, the participants will complete questionnaires related to IBS and general health, and a daily study diary over 18 weeks. In the first treatment phase, half of the patients will receive Enterosgel® and half will receive a placebo for 8 weeks. In the second treatment phase, all patients will receive Enterosgel® for 8 weeks. Across millions of doses, no serious side effects have occurred when taking Enterosgel. Some people have reported constipation, but this is easily avoided by drinking enough water. Enterosgel is also used as an integral part of treatment in children and adults with atopic dermatitis, as researchers have found these patients also have increased blood levels of endotoxins. Use of Enterosgel (at the appropriate dose for age) as part of a complex, anti-allergy, treatment regime can reduce the level of toxins and pathogens in the gut to improve skin condition and overall health. Purpose of the study: To see if Enterosgel helps to treat the main symptoms of people with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D).

How Does Enterosgel Work?

In young children with acute infectious diarrhoea, it is important to provide rehydration therapy. Although ORS can alleviate dehydration, it has no effect on the duration of diarrhoea or abdominal pain. 5 Thus, Enterosgel may have an additional benefit, especially in vulnerable groups; for example, children and elderly or immunocompromised/renal dialysis/receiving chemotherapy where more rapid resolution of diarrhoeal symptoms could have a beneficial impact on health.

Double-blinded randomised placebo controlled trial of - Gut

Often patients with IBS also suffer from food allergies or food intolerance. Enterosgel is non-allergenic, free from preservatives, gluten, sugar and any additives! Enterosgel can be used to treat diarrhoea in patients caused by food allergies or food intolerance. The average number of stools per day, and the average bloating and urgency scores reported by patients, also improved more in the Enterosgel group than in the placebo group. Researchers: The findings from this study offer a new treatment that doctors can recommend to people with IBS-D, to try and see if it can help them manage their symptoms. The results from this study have allowed researchers to better understand which symptoms Enterosgel can improve in people with IBS-D. Although the results from this study showed that Enterosgel can help some people with IBS-D. There were a few limitations to this study, which may make a difference in how researchers look at the results. Ethics approval The study obtained ethical approval from the North West—Lancaster Research Ethics Committee (16/NW/0818). Study was approved by the Health Research Authority (HRA), UK.

There are several different intestinal adsorbents based on the natural silica or clay. Enterosgel is based on pure organic mineral called methylsilicic acid. Enterosgel does not contain any preservatives and additives, which could cause allergic or toxic reactions. Enterosgel has an extensive body of post-marketing clinical studies and over 10 years of use in Europe with an excellent safety profile. It's just a shame that it's rather prohibitively expensive, because it's a great product, but I only take it as a last resort because of the price. In case of long-term diarrhoea it is advisable to consult a doctor to obtain the diagnose of the underlining condition before taking Enterosgel.Analysis and presentation of data was in accordance with Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials guidance, using STATA IC V.15.1. Primary analyses were conducted following the intention-to-treat (ITT) principle with patient outcomes analysed according to their original randomised group irrespective of deviations based on non-compliance. Per-protocol (PP) analyses were also performed, where participants who were ineligible at randomisation, did not take any study treatment or provide any primary outcome measures, were excluded. The primary outcome measure was analysed using both observed data and multiple imputation by chained equations to impute missing daily scores. Missing values were imputed on a weekly basis, with the following variables included in the imputation models: treatment group, baseline measure of the outcome, age and sex. The primary outcome was summarised descriptively by trial arm and the proportions compared using a logistic regression model. Proportions categorised as study period responders for stool consistency and abdominal pain were also compared using logistic regression. At the start of treatment, you can double the first dose and then continue with the single dose after each bowel movement from 3 to 6 times a day. Maximum 8 doses on the first day. Continue taking an Enterosgel dose 1 to 3 times a day during the following 3-4 days until your bowel movements return to normal. In children and adults, treatment of diarrhoea should also replace lost fluids, this may include use of an oral rehydration solution. In this study the primary endpoint measured the percentage of patients that had a 30% decrease in their abdominal pain and a 50% reduction in days with a loose stool, during at least 4 out of the 8 weeks double-blind phase.
