Ok…rant over…oh wait…just a final general rant, can we just stop naming all fantasy novels like they are a 5 paragraph essay? I am slowly making my way through the book (I say slowly just because I'm a somewhat distracted reader these days), and of course the 1995 movie is sometimes the only thing I need to watch. This a loose retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and the author does a good job of being faithful to that story. It had all the characters from Pride and Prejudice that we know and love, and some of the situations that we don't so much (anything pertaining to Mr.

Then we have some of my all-time favorite tropes: slow burn, he falls first, only one bed, touch her and die. The issue I had was more that we get one (ONE) kiss between Fitz and Elle and it's immediately followed by her being convinced that he's a murder.I wasn't sure I was going to like Fitz at first (he showed a few red flag tendencies that are not my favorite), but luckily he redeemed himself and the romance turned very lovely and sweet, even with all the ghosts and necromancy and stuff that I normally don't read (but ended up loving how it was handled in this book! One downside, if you know the original story, you pretty much know/can guess the outcome here, but that didn't bother me much. Filled with fae deals and ghosts haunting the halls, there were quite a few twists that deviated from the original story that surprised me.

I honestly have realized that I am someone who loves the tension of slow burn but hates the wait, again I am impatient, but the wait is so worth it.

Fitz at times came across a little too stoic but then again, he was modeled after Darcy so I guess it's appropriate. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

When I first found this book and saw it described as a "loose retelling of Pride and Prejudice in a Gothic Fae setting", I thought that this sounded like it would be a perfect read for someone like me that loves both the world of fantasy and all things Austen-inspired.By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. Cause, sometimes it seemed to be very extravagant (like, faes could hear everything from very far away and other times it seemed like they didn't), but it wasn't a big deal to me.
