Wine, Cheese, Chocolate Affair

Jan. 17-18/DES MOINES – 6-9 p.m. at the West End Architectural Salvage. Indulge yourself in the opportunity to enjoy generous pours of wine paired with artisan cheeses and decadent chocolates. Winter Festival

Jan. 18/MASON CITY – 1-4 p.m. at the Lime Creek Nature Center. Beat the winter blahs with an adventure-packed afternoon at Lime Creek! Enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoe hikers, a winter scavenger hunt, crafts, games, woodcarving demonstrations and marshmallow/hot dog roasting over a campfire. Jan. 18-19/KEOKUK – View bald eagles in their natural habitat at the Mississippi Riverfront and Victory Park & Southside Boat Club from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Personnel from the Lee County Iowa Conservation Board will staff viewing points. Spotting scopes are available free of charge. River City Mall Indoor Activities: Agency Displays showcasing their efforts of protecting, preserving and maintaining our natural habitat./ Iowa State University insect zoo. / Children pioneer activities and Nauvoo on the road.(Saturday only.)

Jan. 25/AMANA COLONIES – Break out the winter coat for a day of family fun! Games, homemade open fire chili, ice carving, 5K run/walk, music, and winter warmer-upper wine walk. Activities around town all day. Indoor and outdoor wintertime fun! Breakfast in a communal kitchen, fireside chili, and seasonal competitions. Kids activities include a winterfest scavenger hunt, ice rink, cookie decorating and make your own snowman Marshmallow Roast. Panfish Palooza

Feb. 8-9/DENISON – 2nd annual Ice fishing tournament at Yellow Smoke Lake. Time is 5 p.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Sunday. $4,500 in cash prizes to be awarded in the Crappie and Bluegill categories.
