This was one of the earlier novels, and I think the author has now grown into the character and spends more time with Reacher and less with contrived plots. This is important as you move into the later books in the series because it helps you understand the way he approaches almost everything in life.

It also provides a lot of background about Reacher and his family that the reader hasn't learned before. I think I was distracted in the listening process, and if I had held this one in my hands, I would have said it was too wordy. Although this is the eighth book to be published in the Jack Reacher series, it's a prequel to the others.

S. Army, Jack Reacher—an ordinarily untouchable investigator for the 110th Special Unit—is being set up as a fall guy with the worst enemies a man can have. There are references to Joe in a couple of the earlier books, but it's nice to meet him alive and well in this novel. Undoubtedly, with his cleverness, calmness, confidence, and unassailable character, Jack Reacher made The Enemy truly stand out from the crowd.

The farewell scenes with Joe and his dying mother are superbly handled by Child, poignant and true and with death calmly presiding. The missing agenda is subsequently retrieved from Carbone's billet: it contains a plan to assassinate eighteen prominent infantry officers, including many rising stars, to cripple their modernization efforts.Lupta pentru apărarea posturilor duce la conspirații și corupție la nivel înalt, iar cei de jos devin pilonii celor de la putere. This isn't my favourite book in the series and at 540 pages it could have been two hundred pages shorter. Even though I felt like the action took a backseat to the suspense, it definitely had me hooked throughout. This novel shows us how Reacher got demoted from Major to Captain and shows the start of when Reacher stopped truly believing in the army.

In other books, he is a vagabond and uses his savings to pay for busses, motels, and cheap restaurant food. There is something very wrong going on in the US Army and Jack will break as many heads as he needs to to find out what is going on. Despite having been assured by Josephine earlier that she was ready to die, Reacher feels her loss immensely.S. Army, Jack Reacher, an ordinarily untouchable investigator for the 110th Special Unit, is being set up as a fall guy with the worst enemies a man can have. Known for his hold-your-breath action scenes, Child proves equally adept at portraying how a criminal investigation uses the smallest of building blocks (a yogurt container) to construct a compelling circumstantial case. With his French-born mother dying, and divulging to her son one last, stunning secret, Reacher is forced to question everything he once believed about his family, his career, his loyalties and himself. It takes a situation like this for Reacher to learn an extremely important, valuable fact about his mother.
