Hordes of the Things is a sitcom, acting as a parody of J. R. R. Tolkien's classic fantasy series Lord of the Rings. This radio series was written by Andrew Marshall (as A. P. R. Marshall) and John Lloyd (as J. H. W. Lloyd). Simple fantasy rules for epic fantasy battles, including a variety of basic unit types (gods, magicians, heroes, lurkers, and so forth). Point cost system allows players to invent their own armies. Rulebook also includes campaign system, and a number of pre-generated armies. The side that is defending must also have a Stronghold, such as a castle, enchanted forest, goblin cave, or something else suitable for the army. This is free and comes with a garrison, but if captured it costs the game. The beauty of this system is that it doesn’t matter if your figures are elven knights, Napoleonic kurassiers, Goblins or Germanic tribesmen. Practically any pre-20th century or fantasy army can be fitted into these troop definitions. You can either make specific fantasy armies -- Lizard Men, Elves -- or use historical figures and add some fantastic special figures to them. Foot can be Blades, Spears, Shooters, Warbands, Artillery, Hordes, Lurkers, Sneakers, Magicians or Clerics.

For the first game we played at 36AP. I ran my army as 1 x Rider General (Daenerys Targaryen and Dothraki guards), 2 x Riders (Dothraki), 4 x Spears (Unsullied), 2 x Hordes (Freed slaves), 1 x Hero(Ser Jorah Mormont and Ser Barristan Selmy) and 1 x Dragon (Three Dragons). To make it up to 36AP I added elements from my Sundiata army which happened to be in teh same box - 2 x Knights, 2 x Spears and 2 x Shooters. One of the best fantasy wargame rules ever made, IMO... Easy to learn, easy to play. You can use it in almost any campaign with your favorite RPG and even use your own players (and NPC) as units on the battlefield.Command and control works by a simple but tactically challenging system. At the start of your turn you roll a D6. This is the number of player initiative points (PIPs) you can spend that turn. depends upon the situation and troop type -- for instance, it is more costly to move troops not within sight of their general. Any number of extra PIPs can be spent to boost the movement of elements traveling by road with their general. The result depends on the ratio of the two scores and the units involved. Nearly all units are destroyed if their score is half the enemy’s. If the score is less than the enemy’s but above half, the result will usually be a recoil or withdrawal move, but this can be affected by the terrain. Have a browse for Dwarves, Elves, Undead, Goblins, Orcs, Humans, Dracci (Dragonmen), Savage Lizardmen, Lizardmen, Elementals, Dogmen and a wide variety of Monsters, Creatures and Behemoths as well as 15mm fantasy scenics.

A lot of games define troops according to their training, equipment and morale. HoTT defines them by their battlefield role. For example, a unit of Shooters is missile infantry. It works the same way whether it’s made of Hobbits with slings, Martians with radium rifles, or City Guard with crossbows. One turn represents 15 minutes. Can be used with 25mm, 15mm, or 6mm figures. Basing The width of the base depends upon the size ofBruce MacFarlane's Morale and Attrition rules work well with the later, horse and musket armies, as does his Commander Quality Variant. The Extension still needs updating for DBA v2.2, though should work just fine anyway. The army lists will need the most work. Meanwhile, Veganin has set off on his own quest to slay the leaders of the evil hordes, beginning with the High Bishop of Zylbor, whose priests baptise people by holding their heads under water until they stop struggling. What Veganin doesn't realise, until it is seemingly too late, is that the Bishop's gaze will turn anything it falls upon to ashes. HOTT is essentially the fantasy variant of DBA.
