We made this last night looking for something simple and easy with ingredients we had on hand, to “spice up” our usual old fashioned night. This hit the spot. The right amount of lemon juice and dash of cinnamon brought out the cooler weather feels we were having. A shot of flavored whiskey will give you the best understanding of its taste, but there are other ways to drink them. Use them in a hot toddy, a mint julep, an old-fashioned, or a Manhattan. Unlike many Canadian maple liqueurs, Tap 357 is aged in American White Oak and holds on to those notes of charring, leather and smoke. Certainly enough to appease those who view flavored whiskey as more of a novelty and have struggled with overwhelming sweetness in the past.

Great combination. Maple syrup and a dash of cinnamon, I use maple whiskey also and egg white for that frothy creamy mouthfeel, garnish with an orange peal. Great fall and winter drink, gives one a super chill relaxed feeling. Hi, I'm Sabrina! Welcome to my West Coast Kitchen Garden. I hope to inspire you to grow, forage and shop your local farmer's market with these easy and delicious recipes using whole foods. If you don’t have maple syrup on hand, use granulated or brown sugar to make a simple syrup. For both, adding 1 cup of sugar or brown sugar to one cup of hot water will get you a delicious syrup to use for making this sour. It all comes down to personal preference and whether you are looking for something from the home of maple or the home of bourbon. As maple whiskey has grown in popularity there are now enough options available for you to decide whether maple is going to be a helping hand or the main event. Bird Dog Maple Whiskey- American- 40% ABV- Yes, but whiskeys will have varying forms and types of sweetness. For example, Knob Creek’s sweetness is subtle and maple-forward, while Old Camp’s is very saccharine and sugary. Some whiskeys will have just a hint of sugar to bring out the vanilla and caramel sweetness of the whiskey. Others will lean further into the sugary to make a more liqueur-style whiskey.Maple Syrup - This might seem odd but it takes the place of the sweetness from orange liqueur (Grand Marnier or Cointreau). It blends up smoothly and pairs well with whiskey and lime. Nutrition information is calculated by a registered dietitian using an ingredient database but should be considered an estimate.

Maple Flavor– Does the maple function as a rich expression of the traditional flavor, or is it simply there to offer a sugary sweetness? Sweeter maple whiskeys are good for those with less experience drinking neat spirits but could be a little underwhelming for a veteran looking for a more nuanced palate.NOTE: If you’ll be making a maple whiskey sour with eggs (like I did), see specific instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. Many people enjoy a maple whiskey sour with egg whites because they add a beautiful head of foam to the top of the glass. to 4 teaspoons maple syrup, to taste (I like 3 teaspoons, which is the equivalent of ½ ounce or 1 tablespoon) Because of this, the American-produced maple whiskeys tend to come in at around 40% ABV – like a traditional whiskey – while their Canadian counterparts lean more towards smooth and easy-drinking at 30% ABV. This is one you truly have to taste to believe. Skrewball really does taste like peanut butter. It’s just wild. Reminiscent of amaretto, this is definitely for those who like to drink their dessert. It’s 70 proof, so you can try it in a milkshake and maybe add some Chambord for a peanut butter and jelly experience. We aren’t too proud to admit we love it in spiked eggnog for a tasty holiday treat.

A rich sip of this bourbon sour embraces the flavors of fall without succumbing to the lure of pumpkin spice everything. With maple syrup instead of traditional simple syrup, it’s ripe for batching for Halloween parties and Thanksgiving gatherings. Use brandy. Split the bourbon with a quality apple brandy to add apple into the flavor palate of the drink. Buskshot offers a twist on the fad of maple whiskey: a fiery pepper finish. The burn from the pepper balances out the sweetness from the maple which leads to a well-balanced whiskey. While not the smoothest bourbon out there, it isn’t supposed to be. This rustic offering won’t disappoint anyone interested in a little pepper to finish off their maple. Whiskey Body– Are you looking for an American bourbon or Canadian rye? This will come down mainly to personal preference, but will be affected by the sort of ABV you are looking for with American bourbons up to 10% ABV stronger across the board.Vanilla is a hallmark note in many whiskeys, so enhancing that flavor feels like an obvious choice. Infused with Madagascar vanilla, this bottle of Crown Royal will certainly please a sweet tooth. While you can taste some fruity notes, the vanilla is quite intense and there’s not much spice or oak to provide balance for drinking on its own. Try it in a Canadian coffee (an Irish coffee with maple syrup) or mixed with ice-cold cola. Also you should give Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon a try since you like those flavors together. It’s very sweet/drinkable. Similarly, fruit combinations can mellow out more earthy whiskeys and transform them into an easy-drinking treat. Apple, peach, lemon, and lime are some of the more popular options and are good places to start. If you like whiskey and wine separately, you’re going to love them together in one glass. If you need a stiff drink after the holiday crazies, this is it. Please let me know how you like the recipe in the comments section! Tap 357 also offers a couple of variations on their core product, producing maple rye with sherry and port finishes for those looking for something a little fruitier.

I was looking for a new drink recipe to make during the holidays. I decided to give this a try because it sounded delicious. I wasn’t disappointed! This is amazing and now my favorite drink. I have made it for many people and they absolutely loved it. I tried with and without cinnamon and with cinnamon is the way to go. If your debating on trying this? DO IT! It's a unique and unexpected twist on a typical margarita that will leave your guests wanting more. Plus, it's easy to make, so you can whip up a batch in no time. The best maple whiskey is bold in its approach. Take two of the most beloved flavor profiles on the planet, smash them together, and see what happens. This bourbon offers a twist on the idea of a maple flavored bourbon. In this case, instead of infusing the bourbon with maple syrup, the barrels themselves were made from sugar maple. The result is a uniquely complex offering which loses some of the caramel normally present in bourbon from the oak in the barrels. However, the caramel surprisingly isn’t missed as the maple imparts its own subtle sweetness to the bourbon. Hard to describe, this is a bourbon best experienced first-hand.Cookie and Kate 2010 - 2023. All rights reserved. Cookie and Kate is a registered trademark of Cookie and Kate LLC. From the great Canadian north comes a Crown Royal offering you won’t want to miss. The maple notes compliment the sweet burn of the rye and create a well-balanced and surprisingly smooth sipper. This is one maple-flavoured whiskey you won’t want to miss.
