If you have access to recording software or a DAW, you can use the USB Computer (Type B) port to connect the FP-30X to your computer or smart device. If your goods develop a fault within the warranty period, we'll quickly repair or replace the item for you. First of all, many of today’s digital pianos use stereo samples, which sometimes require two or even more notes for each key played. These keys also include escapement modeling, which makes the keys feel even more true-to-life by including a subtle ‘notch’ feel, which is present on real acoustic pianos as well.

Increasing the value seems to increase the size of the emulated space, but also muddies the sound due to the simulated reflections.

If you’ve been a long-time reader of our reviews, you’ll know that we’re massive fans of Roland’s FP-line. To access most features, you need to rely on button-key combos, which are something I’ve always found to be quite annoying (although it does keep the front panel looking clean and minimal).

The PHA-4 Standard key action is great, and I can honestly say it is among my favorite key actions, even up to the past the beginner level. The FP-30X also adapts as your technique develops, whether you place it on the KSC-70 stand for upright performance or bring added expression to your playing with the easily connected three-pedal KPD-70 unit or DP-10 damper pedal. So because I have no interest in learning a bunch of key combinations for this review, I will be using the “Roland Piano App” on my iPad to select voices, and make other settings changes in my videos.

This means you can’t really make use of your saved songs outside of playback on the FP-30X, which is a shame. When it comes to sounds, Roland has a long-standing pedigree of being one of the best sound designers on the market. There's also a dedicated wood frame stand and pedalboard available for players who want a self-contained home piano with a small footprint.

And given that there are only 5 lit volume indicators, you actually have no idea looking at the display what your volume IS – there are actually 100 volume increments on the FP-30X. Ok so I’ll quickly compare the FP-30X to some other choices, but I DO need to mention a strange pricing issue between the USA and Canada – every piano that I’m about to mention below (including other Roland products) sell for about the same in the USA and Canada when you take current exchange rates into account – except for the Roland FP-30X ; I have NO idea WHY this is the case, but even after taking exchange into account, the FP-30X sells for about 20% higher in Canada!
