About this deal

We unrolled the Challenger and started pumping, within 5 minutes we were on the water with a quick snap of the paddle and we were away. Can fit nozzle to other side of pump and rapidly deflate too (like one of those vacuum clothes bags), waaaay easier than pump/waiting/rolling on it and small/light enough to carry with you! The Excursion Pro is the most expensive inflatable kayak from Intex but the boat skin is much thicker and it has much more features.

The supplied Intex Double Quick II* is a small-volume double-stroke pump with three different attachments. If by chance you do end up in the water, then the Challenger K1 is extremely buoyant, floating to the surface and self-bailing before you re-enter. Double stroke means that air is expelled both when the piston is pushed down and when it is pulled up, thus enabling more efficient pumping. I, personally, couldn’t be more stoked that I can once again head to the river for a paddle or a float any dang time I want. At 5’3″ and 5’6″ we had plenty of room for our legs in front, but the inflatable cone that goes down by your feet to hold the cockpit open for your toes takes up some room, so keep that in mind.

For paddling from time to time a bit on a calm and small lake where you want to relax the Challenger K2 is great option. Sounds like it’s exactly right for someone like me (a very occasional, casual kayaker not ready for a big equipment commitment). The value of this kit is amazing: an inflatable kayak, paddle, hand pump, and repair patch is great value for money. Portability - Though this weighs only 13kg, we marked down portability since the thin, light materials that make it a good compact easy-carry also compromise on its quality and increase risk of puncture. The kayaks feature inflatable seats with backrests, inflatable I-beam floors, grab lines on both ends, and a cargo net for extra storage. The material seems thick and sturdy, which means it shouldn’t tear or puncture anytime soon and should stand up to a fair amount of wear and tear. It doesn’t track very well and it’s not too durable either, but for the amount of money you’re paying, that is to be expected.

Immediately after you get out of the water, pull the stoppers out of the kayaks to start their deflation process. It is made with a strong vinyl material to ensure it is sturdy enough to handle rugged river waters. It also has a removable skeg to make handling better, and a hand/foot pump that makes inflating easy. As a side note, consider keeping a towel in your car to dry the inflatable kayaks before you deflate them. This is one of the thinnest-walled boats we tested, and we have no confidence in its ability to withstand riding over underwater sticks or particularly pokey rocks.
