The name comes from the winemaker's latest venture, the rearing of big black pigs for making his very own version of Iberico bellota ham. A diverse array of wines are made by this producer including those from grapes viognier, merlot, sauvignon blanc, grenache (garnacha), white blend, pinot grigio, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, cabernet - syrah/shiraz, grenache - syrah, and grenache - mourvedre - syrah. Aged in oak barrels for 6 years under a voile ‘veil’ of yeast - similar to Sherry - exposed to oxygen, but unfortified. When our winemaker Steve was offered this parcel he recognised that it was the best fruit he'd seen in years and produced a wine that sat above our all time favourite Aussie red - The Black Pig!
